I lost a buddy to a gaming addiction last year, hes in university. Not sure if he dropped classes but hes averaged 12 hours a day of lost ark for the last year straight ie 140-180 hours every 2 weeks... no breaks. Dudes wasted nearly 4000 hours this year, i gave up

Looking for advice.

A buddy of mine is addicted to playing on his Playstation. He lives with his parents who enable him. He has no job, no real friends besides me and no social life. When he's not gaming or sleeping, he goes to forums to argue about "Playstation master race" and all it's amazing exclusives though he admitted to me he never played those exclusives.

How can i help him get a life? This is his gaming stats from last year

I am trying to be a good friend but you gotta remember we see it as just a hobby but to my friend this is his real life. Whenever myself or friends on his list ask why he's always online he makes up excuses. Eg, how do you think I have his year-end stats? It's from his account, he screenshotted and sent everyone just to boast expecting us to think he was really cool. When he realized we were mortified he started changing his tune "well guys I actually have a life I just leave the PS5 on all day while I'm out banging girls"

Of course there's losers on his list that believe the BS but I know he's lying just to save face after his boasting backfired.

i couldnt even begin to estimate how many hours of gaming ive done in my life but unless im in the zone sometimes i dont play for a couple days or will just try a new game and drop it.ive played a chit ton in my life and would skip school to play.ruined my life.id rather just drink a beer and watch a good movie with my friends these days.love me a good game though.i actually like my ps4 more then ps5.guess i just gotta keep figuring it out

I’m glad my parents only allowed us to play on weekends and for an hour/day. Starcraft sucked me in for a while. Chess too but at least there’s real life applications. There’s a balance with chess, like bodybuilding there’s a point of diminishing returns and you want to avoid going full autistic.

At the very least he can kick up a stream while he games and try to monetize his passion. No excuse to rot as a gamer in 2023, you can make it a lifelong career if you play your cards right.

No charisma whatsoever and based on his stats my penis can beat him in a 1v1. He's not actually good at gaming, he just spends too much time on it because it's his identity now.

I guess that's the issue. How can you reason with a no-lifer whose gamer persona is more valuable than his real identity? If you ignore time for sleep, the vast majority of his waking hours are in- game.
