Reminds me of how Guerilla threw away the Killzone IP.
They could've picked up Killzone 4 with a new and gripping campaign and multiplayer for PS4, but instead we just got a tech demo dressed up as an FPS...what was it called...OH YEAH Killzone ****Fall.

Man, I played the fuking chit out of Killzone 2 and the multiplayer on PS3. Loved the artstyle and the graphics were insane for the time. I recently looked up a video to see if I had on nostalgia goggles, and NOPE.... The graphics were way ahead of their time.

Man Killzone 2 was so amazing.
The hit reactions, the hefty movement, the graphics and that excellent setting. Then Killzone shadowfall, as gorgeous as it was, was absolutely trash and boring as far as gameplay goes ... Just felt like another reskinned cod, but worse in every department except graphics. Never played Killzone 3 though.
That said, Killzone franchise should probably be given to another studio, I'd rather Guerrila keep making different games than go back to Killzone. Hell, I'd like to see another new ip from them this gen before they go back to Horizon 3.Sig line can't be a novel

I guess that's the rub: The best "mainstream" shooters like Battlefield 4 are now several years old and no longer mainstream. The best these companies can do is look at what's trending from their competition and try to copy that instead of understanding that Battlefield players play Battlefield for Battlefield, not Call of Duty, Fortnite, or Overwatch.
And when they're not staring at each other's notes, they're coming up with new ways to strip away bit by bit and piecemeal it back in teeny, tiny doses of dopamine instead of focusing on how to just make a fun shooter.
First, it would be remiss of me not to mention how the current shell of DICE doesn't even know why people liked Bad Company 2, and that's back in 2014. They still don't have the foggiest clue either; look at how they tried to completely abandon the entire identity of their star franchise with Battlefield 2042 because they still wanted to take the extra step from absurd skins we saw hints at during the Battlefield 5 reveal trailer all the way into popular hero shooter monetization. Yeah, great plan - turn your game into a farcical imitation of its peers to try to latch onto a bunch of zoomers who don't even know what Battlefield is because they can't play as Current Marvel Movie Character.
We also saw it with 343 and Halo - granted 343 are total fukkups, but they killed of the early goodwill of Halo Infinite for basically just working well by taking away player agency to, again, just have fun and play whatever they wanted like they could for the decades Halo has been around before.
Honestly, that's what I find disappointing about Sony dropping their FPS games because at least they have the decency to continue making strong single player campaigns to provide some actual meat to build the multiplayer around. There is definitely something missing with all of the new shooters these days where if you take a single half-step back, it's obvious how the utterly daft pretenses for whatever asinine "world" or whatever they've got going on is just a quarter-ass effort to justify an ongoing monetization/dopamine scheme. "Hey, here's a newclassunique-but-designed-by-committee character now give us infinite dollars for fukking skins that if gen z weren't so technologically braindead, they'd be able to whip up themselves like the old days for free.
I don't know, I just don't like this whole "live service" trend precisely because of how obvious it is that companies are making absolute bank selling minimum effort content in exchange for really not that much other than new ways to string people along in an attempt to keep them in a sunk cost over all of the money wasted on a bunch of faff that they seriously could have just made themselves.
I cannot stress that part enough - it is not rocket surgery. Hell, I'm modding game X into game Y for shiits and grins. I never knew blender or modeling, but even I can do it. But you mean to tell me that some gaudy skins cost as much as entire games, and these dumbasses think they're getting a deal compared to the days of simply (1) paying for the game (crazy thought), (2) paying for the actual content like maps or expansions, and (3) having rewards for playing the game instead of having to pay $10 for the color blue.
This! Goddamn criminal to throw it away for Ferngully Zoids or whatever and not even have the decency to let another studio take a crack at it.
No other FPS has captured this kind of visceral, gritty action; Killzone 2 and 3 made art out of the combat and battlefields.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine
My dark grave awaits, my fate is revealed - But I'm not afraid to die

Now I feel bad for only having played Killzone 1. Looks like it really took off in the sequels.

I stopped playing after Advanced Warfare. I felt it was trying to hard to be more like Titanfall with its movement, but I play CoD and Battlefield because it's supposed to be simple, boots on the ground action. I hear it's gone back to it's roots a bit, but I was really disillusioned after AW. The campaign was fun as always at least.

Killzone 2-3 had some pretty bad input lag/joystick dead zone, that kind of unresponsiveness is a big no for competitive FPS, one of the reasons they never reached mass success.
I'd like to see Sucker punch try, I think they might do a better job than guerrilla or insomniac, sony will definitely need something to fill the COD void. MAG2 lol?

I remember back on the PS2, playing the Killzone 1 Beta online. It was pretty buggy, but damn that game felt so refreshing for the time. Loved how the guns felt, even tho most people said it was "too heavy". I really liked it.
Killzone 2 was great too. I got ShadowFall when PS4 first released, and the graphics were crazy good for the time. Would be cool if they updated that game for PSVR2.--------------------- ϞϞ( ๑⚈ ․̫ ⚈๑). ---------------------
