Opencritic up to 86, which is in the top 4% of all games released. https://opencritic.com/game/13898/hogwarts-legacy
Wow! What a pleasant surprise!! Can’t say I was expecting it to review this well. Game seems like it is actually excellent
This year has already had some fantastic releases, and it’s still so earlyLast edited by ScramFranklin; 02-06-2023 at 05:16 AM.

Yep, I wasnt too interested in this, but after watching acg's vid and a couple other stuff, it seems like this is indeed a big pleasant surprise and apparently makes open world relatively fun to explore. I havnt had that feeling in a long ass time.
I wonder if this game will be this gens Mad Max.
The only thing I havnt been too impressed so far is the visuals ... ACG's review says that the opening section of this game is one of the best looking graphics/presentations he's seen in an open world gen, but youtube compression isnt really selling it ... That and from the videos it doesnt look as good as Horizon FW. Very excited to see it on my tv in person though and hopefully what ACG said holds true.Sig line can't be a novel

The developer and the fact most licensed IP’s aren’t that great outside of stuff like insomniac doing Spider-Man. Better than just calling good games garbage that have good rating and you haven’t played.
And just because I didn’t expect a 86, doesn’t mean i was expecting something shiety……. Like a 70-Engineering Crew

no need to have a full blown emotional meltdown over my post
brought up the game plenty of times without mentioning any wokeness. havent mentioned wokeness in a while in this section (since the release of the last of us 2, i think). itt im at least somewhat on topic since we are talking about reviews.

Played about an hour, finished off until I chose my house. Went with Ravenclaw .
Initial impressions -
Graphics look way better on my tv than it does watching youtube. I wouldnt go as far as to say that this is the best open looking world game (paraphrasing what ACG said about the initial level), but the graphics are very nice and some faces are detailed and emote quite well. Wouldnt call it next gen graphics, but it's very very nice looking so far imo. I'm playing on fidelity mode right now, so the 30fps seems a bit hard for a game like this, I'll probably try out performance or balanced next ... Not sure which is the VRR option. Console has rtx settings as well, but I doubt i'll go down that route because console rtx sucks ass unless it's from an extremely talented dev or a first party studio. But basically this game looks a lot better than the recently released Forspoken, or AC valhalla/Dying light 2 so far.
Presentation is top notch, from the start screen you instantly know that this game was made was made by Harry Potter fans, lot of love and work was done into making it feel like you're in the world of Hogwarts. It's a love letter to the fans of the world and so far it play's extremely well and seems like it'll be fun, but more on that later when I get to play some more.
Voice acting for the MC is kinda meh so far, but everyone else is pretty damn good.
Can't wait to dive in deeper later tomorow, but so far I'm really enjoying what I'm seeing so far.Sig line can't be a novel

Yep, they give you like a couple questions, but it's pretty obvious what the houses represent. Apparently you can link some hogwarts account with your wb account and get sorted that way if you want some more deeper/randomized sorting.
Oh yeah forgot to mention one thing I didnt like .. The Fov is pretty bad. If people hated GOW (which I didnt mind and actually liked) this game is far worse lol .. With the way enemies move around and attack you from behind, it didnt nearly feel as responsive as god war was to me. Though I I only had like one encounter and I'm only limited to basic attacks at first, so maybe it gets better, but the fov could really be loosened up a little ... Wonder if PC has a slider though.Sig line can't be a novel

Does it let you choose what to say, and does it change the story/quests? I hate the Fallout/Skyrim style when whatever dialogue you choose, the replies of the NPCs are almost always the same.

Well only legit had like 2-3 encounters which were just super basic tutorials and you're armed with just a basic spell, so the initial combat was just spamming r2 to hit your basic spell until they die lol. The blocking is kinda fun though, but again basic. You press triangle before the enemy attacks and it blocks. If you hold down the button then he auto counterattacks, very simple and a generous window.
But ACG and other reviewers say the combat gets a lot deeper and a lot more challenging with multiple spells to juggle and enemy weaknesses etc.
Nothing so far and no idea about any of that. I saw a gameplay video where I saw dialogue choices, but not sure if it does anything or if its just something to get more lore out of everyone. I havnt been following the game much, so legit dont know if there's any choice/consequence to the game.
I sure hope there is and that choosing the house matters too and it's not just some throwaway choice to give you a different aesthetic in common room lol.Sig line can't be a novel
