How much protein do I need?

If my goal is 180 lb (I'm currently at 149), should I take in 180 g of protein a day? I Heard from someone that the amount of protein for a bulk should be based on the goal weight in grams (for instance, since my goal is 180, this guy was saying that I should be taking in 180 g a day). I'm currently getting around 160 g a day and am slowly gaining muscle mass (mostly in the back and chest). Not sure if I believe him.
My current daily caloric surplus amount is 2605 (100 up from maintenance of 2505, making it a safe surplus amount).

People are always overestimating protein needs. Just get 0.7g-1g of protein per pound of bodyweight. More doesn't hurt either, so 160g is a fine amount.
    Uh oh

1 to 1.6g per kg of bodyweight.

    Anything more is money wasted.

So for you, that equals out to 70 to 110g. I’m rounding here for simplicities sake.

The good news is if you keep aiming for 100 calories above maintenance daily, you'll be at your goal weight of 180 in 1085 days aka 3 years.

I’d go with 180 in the hope that some of that mass goes to your legs.
