Anybody else think Hogwarts is gonna be a ****show flop?

I'm watching videos of the game and the graphics look a lot better than I expected it to be.

I see one reviewer give it somewhere between 8-9 after around 7 hrs of gameplay. Few things he says:

Combat is really fun and better than he expected. There's combos and chit you gotta chain together like DMC

The world is much more detailed than expected and when fast traveling he never came up on NPCs repeating the same lines.

Main story missions are great, customizations are great as well.

The game feels made by Harry Potter fans who wanted to make a great Harry Potter game. He can tell lots of attention to detail and lore was put in, doesn't feel like a cash grab.


Cons:

Side missions in the world outside the castle are your standard average tasks that reward you with loot. No memorable quests/characters in these

There's pop in sometimes at far distances but nothing to break immersion.

For an early impression, that doesn't sound nearly as bad as it could have been with something as large of scope as this could have been.

It's Warner Bros. too, so their track record has been really poor, but maybe someone woke up and realized they need to not screw this one up, and/or that there is a prime market for Harry Potter games that is too valuable to screw up (especially given their other screw ups).

Flop? The game is going to be a monster, at least in the commercial sense. If you are referring to critically, you have a leg to stand on




… have you actually skimmed metacritic user reviews? It’s an almost entirely useless metric. Although I agree on critic reviews on this one may be a bit divided given the “controversy”

Steam reviews would be a bit more accurate (in terms of non console warriors/fanboys, as you need to have the game to make a review, and can’t just spam nonsense)

I meant user reviews in general, but in all cases you ust skim to skip the dumbshiit ones and read the constructive ones. No different than browsing misc gaming and tech.

I didn't preorder because a lot of "hyped" games have been trash recently

Also i find it hard to believe we will FINALLY get a good Harry Potter game

I'd also be looking at places like Misc/actual gamers reviews over garbage gaming websites.. because you know these guys will be knocking it down a point or two no matter how good it is

Yeah exactly. Gaming sites are completely irrelevant in this day and age, any big news is going to be talked about on forums or by youtubers you know, and old fashioned written reviews are pretty worthless as well when you can just quickly/easily click on a stream or playthrough and see for yourself what a game is like.

As for this game, well I am definitely not pre-ordering anything anymore because it's usually overpriced (they're trying to sell new release games for $70 or as $80+ DLC included editions) and they're often incomplete, buggy, or otherwise needing patching. Heck with the DLC and update roadmaps most of these games have you are literally better off just waiting for a sale, the release date versions of games feel like betas and by the time it's on sale it's going to be a far more finished and complete experience.

No online/co-op, and the only thing they've announced is a $70 Digital Deluxe Edition, which looks like it's there mostly for a sort of horde mode.

Yeah they took their time with this, I'd imagine the budget is big and it seems the devs are big fans of the series because early players are saying there's a chit ton of accurate lore and callbacks to the game in terms of details, sound effects and so on. I'm sure everyone knew they had something special on their hands so they made sure not to fuk it up. It's one of the bigger franchises currently as well so establishing this game as a series could potentially be a huge success for them.
