I haven't watched any videos and tbh my hype is at 0. While I want the game to succeed, I can't help but get a ticklish laugh if it flops and to see gamers rage.

This. Your average NPC gamer wants this game to fail because they think Rowling is TURF (TERF? whatever, doesn't bow to the trannies) so they are going to do everything in their power to bad mouth it.

I think the game will be a solid 8/10. Potter nerds who don't follow social media are going to snap this up. I haven't pre ordered it but this will probably be one of the few games that I actually pay full price for.

Reviews are going to be mixed off the bat because of political reasons, which is hilarious in its own right for a multitude of reasons, but high on the list has to be this:

Anyways, I'm not invested myself, but it looks really impressive and highly detailed. I'm not sure how the combat will hold up since the gameplay that I've seen had pretty dumb AI, but this would also be the sort of game where they'd show off the easy/narrative/game reviewer difficulty to appeal to a more casual audience who just wants a Harry Potter RPG/sim.

Cyberpunk's pretty appropriate to bring up because one potential snag with this game is that it's also releasing on last gen systems, so it's difficult to say how it impacted the game, but it would be naive to believe that it hasn't had some effect. Whether the porting across generations/systems will take a hit that needs extra attention over time to continue optimizing like Cyberpunk is not something I would totally rule out, either.

Based on how the game itself is looking so far, review sites will probably have to go through some glaringly obvious mental gymnastics to score it bad without straight up admitting that they just want to wokescold people unless it genuinely does fail in some other legitimate aspects like the gameplay, performance, story, ect.

Developers really need to get side teams to focus solely on side quests. Not sure why no one does this.

Witcher 3 & Cyberpunk had the best side quests. Can't speak for any other open world games.

… have you actually skimmed metacritic user reviews? It’s an almost entirely useless metric. Although I agree on critic reviews on this one may be a bit divided given the “controversy”

Steam reviews would be a bit more accurate (in terms of non console warriors/fanboys, as you need to have the game to make a review, and can’t just spam nonsense)
