Black Wall Street was one of the most successful African-American communities in the United States at the time. Black entrepreneurs had created a community of attorneys, real estate agents, doctors, and other small businesses that made the area self-sustaining and prosperous.

Unfortunately...
White residentsโ resentment of Black economic success and a racially hostile climate eventually led to the 1921 massacre, which left 35 square blocks burned to the ground and 39 people dead.On May 31 and June 1, 1921, mobs of white residents attacked Black residents, homes, and businesses, as well as cultural and public institutions in the Greenwood District of Tulsa, OK, an oil boom city. Greenwood was also know as "Black Wall Street," one of the wealthiest Black communities in the United States. As a result of this attack, thirty-five blocks were systematically looted and burned, destroying 190 businesses and leaving 10,000 people homeless. The property loss estimated by the Tulsa Real Estate Exchange was the equivalent of $31 million in 2017, likely an underestimation.

Terrible event.
I don't think it's good for black people to only look at the awful events of the past, though. It only deepens that victim mentality. Even back in those days there are plenty of good stories of black people succeeding. I.e., all the legendary jazz musicians from the first half of the 20th century. These days no one wants to hear anything like that. Being a victim is the new American dream.

Despite my inherent โracismโ I actually have to disagree with you here.
Itโs one thing when AAs call for reparations for the slave trade, which is ridiculous, but in the case of Black Wall Street I think itโs important not to gloss over this event.
Modern AA communities are nightmarish, moral-less chitholes steeped in poverty and lack of a properly supported infrastructure.
This was a legitimately stable and prosperous AA community that could have represented a shining beacon for other AA communities to follow in the years to come that was actually destroyed by a version of white supremacy.
Itโs a truly terrible mark in American history and should never be forgotten.

Actually black people should. Shows the potential we're capable of instead of looking up to rappers and athletes. We should all look back on awful events because it helps prevent them from happening again.
Black Wall Street shows the potential of what blacks can be if we all just worked smart enough and grinded. Unfortunately I don't think that's ever happening again. Maybe it will, time will tell.

The black race is done in America.
80+ percent kids out of wedlock
Extremely low reading level and wanting to get into stem
Rap culture permeating every part of the youth
Being called an uncle Tom for holding any value that Clarence Thomas holds
White liberals and black race exploiters telling them the most important problem is white people or cops.
Lol. Done

That doesn't change the FACT that it's a great example of black success.
Yes it ended negatively, but it was still successful at one point...and that should be the takeaway.
Instead of debating with me, you could contribute a black success story of your own.
Are your expectations of me that low? Damn bro.
Agreed
There's always been an underlying fear of collective black organization in the west.

...
The massacre began during Memorial Day Weekend after 19-year-old Dick Rowland, a black shoeshiner, was accused of assaulting Sarah Page, a white 17-year-old elevator operator in the nearby Drexel Building. He was arrested and rumors that he was to be lynched were spread throughout the city, where a white man named Roy Belton had been lynched the previous year. Upon hearing reports that a mob of hundreds of white men had gathered around the jail where Rowland was being held, a group of 75 black men, some armed, arrived at the jail to protect Rowland. The sheriff persuaded the group to leave the jail, assuring them that he had the situation under control.
The most widely reported and corroborated inciting incident occurred as the group of black men left, when an elderly white man approached O. B. Mann, a black man, and demanded that he hand over his pistol. Mann refused, and the old man attempted to disarm him. A gunshot went off, and then, according to the sheriff's reports, "all hell broke loose."[24] At the end of the exchange of gunfire, 12 people were dead, 10 white and 2 black. Subsequently, the group reportedly fled back into Greenwood, shooting as they went. Alternatively, another eyewitness account was that the shooting began "down the street from the Courthouse" when black business owners came to the defense of a lone black man being attacked by a group of around six white men.[25] It is possible that the eyewitness did not recognize the fact that this incident was occurring as a part of a rolling gunfight which was already underway. In either case, as news of the violence spread throughout the city, mob violence exploded.[2] White rioters invaded Greenwood that night and the next morning, killing men and burning and looting stores and homes. Around noon on June 1, the Oklahoma National Guard imposed martial law, ending the massacre."...Voidmayne...Creepin' up on ya..."
