    Impact of breaking your routing

How much of an impact is there to say randomly switching up one of your conditioning days to a lifting day and going back to normal the following week? I know it's a broad question, just wondering how important strict routines are when it comes to working out only (not diet), as I have a much easier time keeping a rigorous schedule when I mix things up.

Based on how vaguely you posed your training question, it probably doesn't make much of a difference in your case.

There's the time it takes to adapt to the stimulus of a new routine, before progressing with it and thus seeing results come from that. So program hopping too frequently doesn't make sense, it doesn't give you long enough with each one you move to - but i'm all for smaller infrequent changes within the routine, to break a plateau for example.

I'm not talking about changing the program, i've had a consistent routing for years. More like flipping one day (ex: long run for heavy weights) once in a while.

And you want someone to measure the impact of you flipping one day, as one example, a long run for heavy weights, "once in a while" from an unspecified "consistent routine for years"? Like I said, it probably won't make any difference in your case from how you're posing the question.
