From the way this video was talked up I was expecting to see egregious behavior from the police.

Pfff, the video was nothing. They beat Nichols because he was resisting arrest. That's normal. When a guy is resisting arrest, the police start hitting him and using force.

How else could the police facilitate an arrest if someone is resisting?

The audio sounded like there was def a lack of professionalism, but if you resist arrest, how else are they to get you to comply? If they were kicking him, that may be a bit too far. I think they can charge you more severely if you or I ever did that to someone. Kicks are considered much more deadlier.

I may never watch the video (I checked out the Trayvon Martin details a year after the trial was over), but I'm quoting you for truth about police dogs. They could definitely diffuse a lot of situations before they get a chance to become something. The instinct to run away gets squashed.

He was just resisting and based off some of the short clips that are going around it looks like they were beating him when he was in cuffs when he wasn't. After they cuffed him they stopped physical force altogether.

Not excusing the cops because they did a chitty job, but some of this outrage is misguided.

This seems like the entire story. The story before was he ran from a legal stop. But now we know there is no proof he was driving recklessly, so no probable cause, even with all the pole cams, dash cams and door bells cams available in that area.

What could have possibly happened before the cameras were on that warranted being killed on the street. Even if he was wanted for murder, the cops job isn't to execute justice.

I've hired 6 guys from the PD in my area... 1 SWAT Commander and the rest at least 8 year veterans.

Solid, smart honest guys. I have about 15 more begging me for employment they want out so bad they're willing to take substantial pay cuts. For them it's either get shot on the job or get thrown in jail for doing your job. They all told me they stopped responding to calls toward the end because of the scrutiny they go through if things end hands on. They even have a police force inside the police force that watches all body cam footage and writes up infractions every chance they get. Imagine working like that for 60k a year.

Edit: end result of all this will be all the good cops leave and the only people willing to do the job are just as bad as the criminals. Defund the police will end in more brutality.
