Guys like him, Gaethje, and Porier, who sit on top of the division (given they don't have the belt), don't need to fight as much. They've made good money and probably have other sources of income. They can afford to sit out and wait for fights that make the most sense financially and in the rankings.

Colby has pretty much proven he was a 1b in the division to the guy many considered to be pound for pound the best fighter in the world. I don't think he really stands to gain a lot from fighting guys below him like Burns/Muhammed and Thompson who I think he beats pretty easily. Leaves him with really only 2 options fight Khamzat or wait and try and get Edwards if he beats Usman again. I expect Usman to beat Edwards this time around so Colby probably fight Edwards or Khamzat for a number 1 contender shot again.

just a theory but he is pressing charges against street judas so removing himself from the action for an extended period of time might help strenghten his case in terms of how much financial and physical harm were caused

Colby is claiming TBI from Masvidal's sucker punch and needs to play the role for as long as necessary to prove his point in court. In some way it gives him time to relax and take care of his personal things, all while leeching off his rival as an ultimate FU gesture. He's not getting a title fight either way until Leon takes care of the business with Usman, so what's the point. Good for him.

Masvidal is an idiot for going around sucker punching people, by far not the first time he did it. I bet he is praying every single day for Colby to slip up and take a fight so he can scream "look he's fine he's faking it", but that's a wishful dream for Street Judas.
