Yeah brahs, have to say I loved episode one and overall I was pretty happy with some of the changes they made to translate to TV. I'd argue some changes were even better (Joel's watch fixed as opposed to a new watch)

I also rolled my eyes at the "diversified" casting for Sarah but I gotta say, she knocked it out of the park. That one scene hit like a truck.

My only real negative is I'm not fully convinced of Ellie's actress.

Anyways, what would you rate episode 1?

Never played the game, but always wanted to..think I'll be lost if I watch the show not knowing the background/plot?

It was alright.

It does feel a "little" but cheap, but I'm thinking once they get out of the city setting it won't be as much of a problem.

I was annoyed that Joel got the assault rifle so early.

i dont have any faith but still wanna watch it.the whole cast is terrible.ellie in particular.that bish cant act.it never stood achance to live up to the game.im gonna play part 2 again.

If they somehow manage to make the show bad it'd be shocking. I am not sold on Ellie in any way and I really think that's been their biggest miss so far, I just don't buy Bella Ramsey and I don't buy her for the character. Not a huge fan of the CGI Tendrils, but I've also seen worse.

I really liked it. Wish they’d put out the whole season so I’ll probably wait until the rest of it is done.

But the first episode was great.

Edit: and I agree, The Sarah hire was obvious but her scenes were good.

Agreed with this entire post, and the spoiler part as well. Bella doesn't seem to have a full range of emotions to her face. She mostly just does that angry pouty look. I keep seeing the same angry lil girl from Game of Thrones. The scene you speak about felt a little off too, it wasn't as focused and clear as it was in the game since the whole scene was mostly focusing on Joel for some reason.

Agreed. That being said in my spoiler I actually confused the reveal with the way it was done in TLOU2 so that's my bad.

Either way the episode was still a solid 9/10 so I mean kudos to the HBO team for staying "mostly" faithful to the source material.

Was fairly mid-level. Sarah was by far the best character in the episode, everyone else was meh.

Bella is a good actress, but doens't fit this role at all. And the whole episode was like a Season 5 Walking Dead ep

Compare this to Walking Dead episode 1 which was 10/10

I think the sound editing is a little off on this show. The dialogue had a weird flow in that scene and the scene with Joel and Marlene. It was like one character would say a line and then the other would say their’s 0.00001 seconds later. Idk if that makes sense. But there should’ve been a slight 0.5 to 1.5 second pause between lines or something.

As far as a series premiere goes, it was pretty good. I can think of so many popular shows that took 4 to 5 episodes before they start becoming interesting.... or never does *cough* ANDOR *cough*.

I dont know how anyone could have hated this episode for what it is (setting up the characters and plotline)

Yeah but reddit/4chan/the misc is full of angry incel nerd virgins who will hate on this show purely for the fact that they hate TLOU2 (despite never playing it). So they'll take the association of TLOU2 (even though this series covers the first game) and project that onto this TV series (despite probably not even watching the premiere).

So anyone who watched the premiere probably enjoyed it, the haters won't watch it and then will spam about how bad it is and throw out their usual lines of "HURR DURR I BET ITS FULL OF TRANNIES RIGHT!?!?!?"

It was good, liked the beginning of the outbreak...

Thought Ellie was awful tho, annoying af which I don't recall from the game, throwing unnecessary f bombs left and right and the actress didn't fit the role... hopefully character changes at some point

Yeah I don't get how you could possibly dislike it. It's the first episode so it won't be full of action and instead focus on world building and setting up the characters and plot. A miscer here said it looked cheap and I have no idea what he means. I didn't see much CGI, the set pieces looked real as fuk. Nothing was off putting with the aesthetic at all, compared to Rings of Power for instance that looks too shiny and clean.

Characters were great. Sarah was my fave, then Joel and Tess. Marlene was great, I think she's the same actress from the game. Ellie was a 7/10, I need more convincing. The original Ellie seems to have a more innocent outlook in the beginning and expressed them well with those big innocent eyes but this version seems experienced and pissed off all the time. And has those angry beady eyes lol. Hoping she grows more on me in ep 2.

I only just played the game for the first time a few months ago but Ellie definitely cussed alot. Like I said though, this one seems more angry and not quite as innocent and sad/afraid. I'm not sure if this actress can pull off the sad look. Her face just isn't that expressive imo.

Ellie was definitely vulgar in the game. But she was also a lot more playful with the cussing in a teenager kind of way.

I agreed with what's said about the actress, Bella Ramsey. Her acting is fine but her facial expressions are just off. She is just not Ellie.

Pedro nailed it as Joel, but his patchy beard is kind of a joke lol.

Agreed. Rolled my eyes when I first saw Sarah but gotta admit that actress killed it. I connected with her way more than Ellie.

I have to start part 2 still. Waiting for when I'm done with Witcher 3. Heard TLOU2 is depressing overall but I know I have to play it to see where the story ends.

10/10, up until she gets shot, then I think they should've made the 20 years later segment it's own episode.

Only played the opening to TLOU on PS4, but still knew enough of what was going on to enjoy.

Honestly, it's been a long time since I watched a show that had fully engrossed from start to finish since this, so really hoping future episodes can hold up
