With all the discredit Bella has received in this thread I'll be the first to admit some of her lines sounded exactly like game Ellie. So similar sounding was the voice in some of the lines that I'm not buying this media claim that Bella didn't play the game before acting out the role.

Her "what the f'ck!" when Tess and Joel shut the door in her face, for example, sounds exactly like game Ellie. It has yet to be seen if Bella can capture Ellie's innocent wonder in the game, like her attempts to whistle, but they are giving her some room for a comedic interpretation. Like when she stood up and said, "holy sh't I'm actually outside" in plain view of the soldiers. It was funny.

Joel is bang average imo, not great not terrible. Tess is pretty similar to game Tess. Pretty good first ep but not amazing. Will see where it goes. They are nailing the set design though, it's pretty much identical to the game at times

Yeah but reddit/4chan/the misc is full of angry incel nerd virgins who will hate on this show purely for the fact that they hate TLOU2 (despite never playing it). So they'll take the association of TLOU2 (even though this series covers the first game) and project that onto this TV series (despite probably not even watching the premiere).

So anyone who watched the premiere probably enjoyed it, the haters won't watch it and then will spam about how bad it is and throw out their usual lines of "HURR DURR I BET ITS FULL OF TRANNIES RIGHT!?!?!?"

Problem is eventually they're going to go full retard with the clown world nonsense. So if you're against that then no reason to start watching now.

Btw I did play TLOU2 and thought it was good but not great. Major step down from 1 and a big reason why is 2 shoehorning in this "Lev" tranny which was unnecessary and ruined the pacing. Abby's design was a little immersion breaking too. Like they didn't know how to make her strong without being juiced to the gills.

Agreed with this. Some of the way she said her likes were exactly like Ellie and that scene where she stood up in full view of the soldiers was done really well and strong Ellie vibes. That Ramsey girl is doing a decent job so far.




But that was an excellent first episode and really put in the groundwork for what looks like it'll be a really adaptation of the video game. I like that the show is keeping the core of the game, but still changing things around a bit to keep it interesting. Hopefully more of Sony's shows can keep this level on quality, stuff like God of War, Horizon is really making me cautious as to how good it'll be.

I'll give the premiere a 8/10.
Really enjoyable.

They nailed the opening hard af. It was 10/10. Sarah's actress knocked it out of the park.

Tess was done well, and I liked her introduction a lot.
I also really loved Marlene, but hey, she's literally the same actress who played her in the video game.

Joel... Pedro has acting chops, I'm confident in his ability overall. My only issue with his performance so far is his accent. It's inconsistent AF to the point where I wish they wouldn't try to do the Texas accent at all. Sometimes he has it, sometimes it's completely gone. I'm sure as the season goes on it will become more natural, one way or another.

I hate Ellie's face. Bella Ramsey is a good actress. I am fine with her "acting" and portrayal of Ellie. She's actually doing a good job... But her face man. She got this fat round face, fivehead, and beady little eyes that just seems jarring most of the time. I'm sure I'll get used to her, because again, her acting is fine.

I was fine with almost all of the changes. The changes that bother me are really nit picks.

Having Robert killed off screen instead of having Joel beat the **** out of him and then Tess put two in his face while he's laying on the ground trying to make a deal kind of takes away from the characters of Tess and Joel. It did a lot to show the type of people that they are... instead the show keeps "telling" us instead of showing by having people make comments about what they are "capable" of etc. Just seems like a missed opportunity to show not tell, for no reason.

I don't understand the change of having Joel looking for Tommy, or what they are going to do with that plot line. I'm trying to think of reasons why they'd make that change, but I got nothing. Just seems unnecessary to create a new plot. I have to 9imagine something down the line is going to be changed to have this all make sense.


The show did one thing that straight up annoyed the piss out of me and I really hope it doesn't become a constant problem with the show. When the FEDRA guard is holding the gun and Joe is standing in front of Ellie, I absolutely HATED the fact that they cut to a flash back of him and his daughter. Just felt like the scene was over explaining what was going on. The tone of the scene and the acting/look on Pedro's face was all that was needed to understand what was going on there. I hate when a show treats an audience like they are dumb. SHOW ME, STOP TELLING ME.

I feel the Joel looking for Tommy angle was weird because Tommy is covered later on in the game. I guess they used that part to highlight and place emphasis on why Joel really needed the battery.

I miss the scene where Joel and Tess hunt Robert as well. Felt that was a cool action/stealth segment that would have been fun to see. And as you said, SHOW how scary Joel and Tess are. All we got were 2 scenes where it was stated how scary and capable they are. My reasoning for why they didn't show killing is they wanted to emphasize that ending scene where she sees him kill for the first time. It's supposed to be this PTSD moment for Joel and where Ellie is exposed to brutality between humans. I get that, but as you said the flashback felt really out of place.

On top of that this weird thing with the volume lowering and the focus on Joel as he was having his PTSD moment was fuarking lame because it took away so much from the big reveal of Ellie. Couple people who were watching it with me didn't really get what she was saying too well. In the game that scene had a much bigger impact as it was focused on Ellie instead.


Also, Sarah's and Ellie's actresses should have been swapped srs.

Nah I don't want her to be hot or anything like that. I'm in my 30s now, that's a kid to me. I just wish the actress had a wider range of emotions than just pissed/annoyed. Ellie can get tough but she has an innocent/caring side. She also looks frightened/worried in many scenes and I'm just not seeing that in this new actress. It's the weird beady eyes man lol.

Watched last night. enjoyed the first episode, even though I never played the game.
Would of liked a bit more explanation of how society crumbled, and everyone decided to bend the knee to government control (strong modern day correlation), then simply the token "X amount of years later"
Marlene, Joel,Sara and Tommy all strong characters that have good actors casted...Bella sucks, there is nothing remotely likable about her, was hoping she was either shot or left behind when Joel's girlfriend found out she tested positive for infection.

How do you mean you need more explanation of how it crumbled. Did we not watch the same show when all hell was breaking loose? Look at the level of control the government was able to exert on us over this lame ass covid. Compare that to people getting infected, going rabid in 1-2 days and killing/eating each other. Doesn't take a large stretch of the imagination to realise that heavy government intervention was necessary to bring back some semblance of normal life. Of course people gave away their freedoms to survive.

Honestly I wouldn't mind a tv show or a book about the early days of the outbreak and it touches upon stuff like how governments fell, how Fedra and the Fireflies came about, Joel and Tommie's early days of survival and being a hunter and all the fukked up chit that they did. How Joel met Tess. How the infected mutated from runners to clickers and bloatlords etc.

I think it'd be an extremely interesting premise. Maybe the TV show might do something similar in seasons 3 or 4 to bridge the gap to when the next game comes out because the third game is gonna take a loooooong time.


TLOU 2 could actually be split into two seasons because of how fkkn long that game is and how much story content they can touch upon.
