Haven't really trained properly for years, today was my first day back in God knows how long.
I've started a full body routine I found on the web, thought I'd go relatively light with my lifts but even then I found some exercises relatively difficult.
I found the dumbell bench press quite easy with 40kg, now move on to the standing shoulder press and I was embarrassingly weak, I struggled to get 3 sets of 10 reps with a measly 24kg, my shoulders have always been my weakest body part strength wise but come on ffs. Next I did the bent over row and used a 20kg, this exercise seems to get my heart rate going. Last of all for the main movements I did squat, I did this last because it's the only time I had access to the squat rack, I chucked on 40kg and again, surprised at the efforts needed to get all the reps out, a hour or two later and I can feel my quads in a bit of distress. I am also getting the feeling that my sciatica is starting to return after having no pain for at least a year.
Pushing 40 is great isn't it?!?!

40 is still low mileage
if this is a 30/60/90 day thing then push hard push fast .... your quitting anyway
If this is a lifestyle thing then:
correct form
leave ego at home
stop thinking about max
if you are progressing at any speed, you are winning
git er doneI don't necessarily agree with everything I say.
