    One side bigger

    I’m 51 and have been working out for about a year now. I’m happy with what I’ve accomplished this past year but have noticed that my right side is out growing my left. Most notably in the shoulder. The only tome its really noticeable is when I flex but I would like to try and correct it. I have started working each side independently with dumbells on every exercise I can. What else can I do to even it out? Is this a commercial issue?

    Everything is bigger/stronger on the left side of my body when compared to my right. That's measurements with a tape and single arm movements for more reps. My left testicle is bigger too, that's what all the ladies tell me.
    Furnished rental houses in Coffeyville Kansas. Bills paid, weekly rates, full kitchens, washer/dryer, cable/wifi. For refinery contractors.

    I’ll change light bulbs, measure my nuts, and report back.

    The only thing that comes to mind is a little extra unilateral work on the weaker side. It's pretty normal and we all have a weaker side. Others don't notice it as much as we do.

    I agree.

    Reread the original post and sounds like you've already started corrective action by using dumbbells.

    You don't say but I was wondering if you mostly use the stationary machines? Many of them have two handles that connect to a single weight stack which allows you to lift the stack with a single arm/handle. That would also allow one's dominate arm to carry more of the load thus furthering the inequity between the two.

    But, in any case, short of being a platform poser, I wouldn't worry about it.

    I think the only machine I use with single weight stack is a pek dek. I’ve tried to get away from all the barbell work I can and use dumbells instead.

    Someone told me to do a extra set of everything on the weak/small side. I think I will start that also. Maybe over the next year I can balance things out.

    Sounds like a plan, good luck. (Myself, win, lose or draw, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.)

    Now that I think of it, I guess I replied, because I have a somewhat related issue. My dominate arm is irreparably injured. It's an effort to drink anything larger than a 12 oz. pour! So I took the opposite approach. Rather than go for symmetry I started asymmetric training. I figured why should I continue to let my bad arm hold my good arm back? The results were great. I can function like a somewhat normal human being again.

    The size difference is palpable but no one really notices. Unless I'm lifting. It does look a little strange when I put two plates on one side and only a half plate on the other <lol>

    Katrina I’ve started working the left shoulder twice a week and it seems to be working. It’s catching up fast. Very notable difference since I started this thread.
