    Bench Press: 145 pounds - 3 sets x 8 reps
    Pullup: Bodyweight - 3 sets x 8 reps

Planned to do a set of standard SSB Squats, but once I completed the 3rd rep it was very clear I wouldn't make it to my goal of 8 so I did the remaining 5 reps as Hatfield Squats. I think I'll just stick with them in this slot moving forward.

I really struggles on the calf and ab work and did fewer sets and reps than I had done last time.
Bench and Pullups on the other hand were really good and I hit all reps without any need to grind after coming up a few reps short on each of them last time around.

I'm feeling about 95% recovered now, and should be able to stick to a consistent lifting schedule again.

Furnace should finally get fixed tomorrow after being out of commission for more than a week. This will be good for everything except the bank account...but I'll be glad when it's back up and running.

Talk to me about the Hatfields because these intrigue me. Does the SSB bar easily remain shelved on your back or does it possibly slide off?

Yeah we’ve got an ancient natural gas furnace that went out a few years ago. All it needed was a new control board, cheap and easy. It was a little difficult sourcing the part (order online since it wasn’t in stores)

I had a central air conditioning system that would freeze up. Ice around all the copper and aluminum parts. The air conditioning company said the whole entire unit needed replacing. $6000.

The tenants had the thermostat set at 62 degrees, so the unit is running non stop 24/7. It gets over 100 degrees in the summer where I live. I told them to leave it at 72. It's been working fine for a year and has not frozen up. That's $6000 I didn't have to spend.

The tenants employer pays the rent. The house has paid for itself 3x in the last 18 months.

Gas. It's fixed now already. It was a bad heat exchanger that ended up shutting down the thermostat. But then they found that the control panel and ignitor were also bad, so all 3 parts got replaced. They made a strong push to buy a new one of course, but I don't trust the build quality on the newer stuff and plan to keep this one running as long as possible.

Yeah, that was a concern for me as well. They are VERY stable with the SSB Bar though. I feel like I'd have to intentionally try to throw the weight off my back for it to fall off. I think you'll like them if you give them a shot.

    Last day of 2023.

I’ve been reflecting on my most memorable lifts/runs.

I watched a video of a 405x2 that might be my favorite set of the entire year.

Today…well, I’m hoping to make it 405x3 but they have to be perfect or it doesn’t count.

I've bought 30-35 washers, dryers and fridges in the last 15 years. Half a dozen of each one were new. The rest were at estate auctions and costed $50-$75 each. Most of the new ones have crapped out. The ones from estate auctions were at least 25 years old when I bought them and they are like the Engergizer Bunny. They keep going and going and going.

The only thing that breaks on washers are the agitator dogs and the door safety switch (on dryers too). If you can use a wire nut, you can bypass the door safety switch on both.

You can usually find $5-$10 of loose change in the bottom panel of a clothes dryer left behind by previous tenants drying their clothes with change in the pockets.

Finished out the year pretty well with a 325 bench again. I am pleasantly surprised since, prior to this past week, I hadn't really benched much lately, but it came back quickly. Also my body composition is somewhat better. I fit back into size 36 pants and they (at least, this specific pair) are even a bit loose without a belt. Last time I benched 325 I was a handful of pounds heavier. Glad my dad was there with me for it, too. Both 315 and 325 went up smoothly without a grind.

    --

    Flat Bench (T&G):
    315 x 1, 325 x 1, 275 x 5, 225 x 12 (failed on 13th rep about a third of the way up, but was deliberately aiming for failure)
    Bench: 350
    Squat: 405
    Deadlift: 505

Good job, I had that moment too sometime this year too (at one point at my heaviest I was wearing a size 38 waist (bear in mind I'm a bit shorter/smaller than you), and it felt pretty good wearing smaller pants, and then felt even better when I approached my old strength while still at the smaller waist size
