Thanks for the reply.
I want to be more specific: I'm 185lb, 5'7, turning 44yo in the end of January and I have a beer belly.
I don't want to build a big upper body as I naturally have broad shoulders and a long straight upper body but short legs
I want to get rid of my belly and be lean like a basketball player, I'm not looking to develop upper body (chest, shoulder).
I started with skipping the rope, light shoulder press (10lb), and deadlift (50LB plates each side). I'm trying to workout after work at least 3-4 times per week. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Hi there,
The above are good suggestions. A few years ago when I lost ~50lbs and got very lean from being overweight, I eventually learnt that counting your calories and eating in a deficet is an absolute.
Cardio is good for you, but wont help with losing weight as much as you might think. I'm not saying don't do cardio, definitely do. However, in order to lose fat, you have to eat in a calorie deficit. There's no way around this.
Take regular readings of your weight and if your not losing weight, then you need to eat less. Readup on min protein and fat.
If you don't want to build muscle, you wont really, if your losing weight. But lifting weights will mitigate losing muscle.
I think the first response is dead on. I'd simply re-iterate tracking your calories.
As a rough guide you can lose weight at 1-2lbs per week to start with, may closer to 1lb per week once you get quite lean

Firstly, you cannot spot reduce fat. It is going to come off where it wants to and no exercise will eliminate fat in a specific area.
Forkdowns and Tablepushaways
Put the fork down and push the table away.....
The most effective way to lose weight is through nutrition..
