Thumbs up Porsche is replacing gasoline with air and water

The automaker has filled up a 911 for the first time with a new synthetic fuel created out of thin air … and water.

The eFuel was developed by a company called Highly Innovative Fuels that the automaker has invested in as a hedge against being forced to go all-electric in the zero carbon future.

The fuel combines carbon captured from the atmosphere with hydrogen sourced from the water to create methane, which is converted into a fuel that works the same as gasoline.

Porsche will first use it in special projects, including as the fuel for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup racing series, as it currently costs $45 per gallon to make, according to Motor Trend, but will be less than $8 per gallon by 2026.

Since it requires as much carbon dioxide to make as it emits in its emissions, it is essentially a net-zero fuel and could be approved for widespread use under future emissions rules. Porsche, other sports car companies and even the Formula One series have been investigating its implementation in order to preserve the performance and aural entertainment benefits of internal combustion engines in their products.

They have been doing this for awhile now tho

Been betting on this or a similar solution and not electric

Carbon capture will become a requirement and will have more biproduct cheaper etc..
And as demand soars so will efficiency’s.

its all just pipe dreams for a future that is intangible. electrics and sustainable fuels are a luxury of the upper class at the expense of the western working class. but globally LMAO if you think fossil powered ice is going anywhere, we are just shooting ourselves in the foot by just ignoring the vast still untapped pure fossil energy out of some moral indignation, while the rest of the world will prosper unaffected by wokeness by tapping into the energy fruit of the world.

1st) that’s obviously what the first world already is. You can’t industriAlize the third world because of steel and concrete requirements and the sheer size.

You can force mass migrations and replenish a first world society with dwindling populations with the lucky third worlders who make the cut.

2nd I’m literally betting on fossil fueled ice dummy. That’s the whole point on carbon capture is it will enable people to not give three ****s about emissions. The point of the synthetic fuel Porsche is working on is merely utilizing what will be a bi product of traditional fuel thereby helping with supply and costs overall. Esp as carbon capture versus battery becomes the clear superior answer to emissions. Since electrics overall footprint is absolute dogchit.

the energy you get from the fuel is always going to be less than the energy imparted on it to make it, which comes from fossil fuels. it is a massive waste of the energy nature has bestowed on us.

Are you literally fukking stupid or so you not understand carbon capture is for controlling our carbon output aka it’s for continuing to utilize traditional fossil fuels. I’m fukking telling you it’s what we will be doing to keep doing it. And not transitioning to electric.

Do you fukking understand or should I just leave this conversation and mark it off as talking to a retard?

unwad your panties libby. carbon capture in energy production where they inject it into the earth is great. but using it to make a synthetic fuel is stupid, and just the industrial equivalent of virtue signaling.

its just a workaround for electrical energy storage, converting it back to a liquid fuel. a great idea once all the conversion efficiencies are high enough to match that of direct gasoline use. but not limited to "carbon capture" modes.

Sounds incredible, but in fact it's nothing new. The only new part is that they're planning to mass produce it, though it will be way more expensive than gas, which is why no one has pursued this.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Hopefully Porsche can sell the patent (maybe? If they have one?) or technology to other companies and get them in on production to drop it to an affordable price.

This is a big game changer for us gearheads.

    that's amazing.

A carbon neutral gas at only $8/gallon? No dealing with EVs ****ing up the earth? That's an ideal solution if they can get the cost down more. Maybe they can get it to $3 by 2030.

ethanol is already basically carbon neutral (and solar powered!). co2 extracted is from air by plants -> plants fermented ->burned to release co2. like I said this sounds more like virtue signaling than anything.

keep in mind gasoline costs ~50c a gallon to produce. so there's no way of telling how much you would pay at the pump for a fuel that costs $8/gallon to produce, but its safe to assume it would be 2-4X the manufacture cost. Even at a $3 it would still be waaay too high to be of major use.

... and how will this power this plant to make this fuel?

you bet it's from carbon or other fossil fuels.

    Retards keep on retarding.

What kind of retarded comment is this? It's not EV bullchit where you're dependent upon a power grid, it's an alternative to gasoline.

it relies on electrolysis to create the hydrogen that later gets converted to methane, this hydrogen is the fundamental source of energy for this fuel.

Thus the amount of energy available in the fuel comes directly from the amount of electricity used to create it. (minus conversion efficiencies)

Exactly this. This idea is the dumbest chit ever imagined and only flies in a retarded clown world where nothing makes any sense (current year).

You are wasting a bunch of energy to be "green" on paper, only that you're burning 4x the fossil fuels to achieve this instead of just pumping it directly into the cars.
