Boomers getting pushed aside

I’m not a BMW fan. I think they are living on their laurels. But I found this article interesting to see how Boomers are getting pushed aside. It’s worth reading even if you aren’t a car guy.

Back in 2020 I was let go from a good job - I know it was because the company wanted younger employees. I didn’t care about losing the job - I’ve been blessed financially - but it did make getting older very real to me. I went on to self employment - something I really enjoy and I can control how much I do or do not work.

So the other day I was in the grocery store - walking through the produce section. Some b*tch walked by me and bumped my arm as she passed. Apparently my leisurely stroll was irritating her though there was plenty of space on either side of me. I wasn’t in anyway blocking her. I didn’t say anything to her because I’m trying to be a kinder person.

Kinda sucks getting older - I feel as great as I ever have - but others see me as a “old guy” at the gym (and the grocery apparently). I’m not a frail 58 - pretty jacked and lean actually. Time marches on. Buzzin on beer right now - hopefully it’s not to apparent!

Yeah, it is always a bit disconcerting when you can perceive changes in how people react to you based on age. In my case, I don't feel any different now than I did 20 years ago, yet I am sure that others perceive me differently on a number of different levels based on nothing more than age.

Being let go in favor of younger employees sucks because it is also more difficult to get another job for that same reason. I have a colleague who is in her late 50's who is off the charts brilliant and incredibly good at her job, yet I have zero doubt that she would struggle mightily on the job market due to her age.
