Now, given inflation's still rising, the Fed raised interest rates again, unemployment claims are up, new housing starts are falling (the Fed's action will likely slow them further), and new vehicle inventory is rising (again: the Fed's actions should increase that trend): The economic outlook is not encouraging.

The only bright spot in the economy, lately, is durable goods orders increased more than expected in October and increased slightly in November.

I don't expect that to obtain through the first quarter of 2023.

My expectation is, when people have to start paying the piper in January for their buying orgies, consumer demand will dip sharply, followed by orders for durable goods. That may finally trigger the recession many have been predicting.

Gas prices should continue to decline, though. Good for those who still have an income with which to pay for it.
