Played about 60 hours, just had to do the final divine beast and kill gannon but I started playing persona 5 so I'll go wrap it up later. Not interested in the lazy sequel either.
I am a huge zelda fan and a huge open world rpg fan but in my mind never the twain should meet.
Compare BOTW to something like The Witcher 3 and you'll see why it's ****, hell if you don't want to say BOTW is an rpg then compare it to Red Dead 2.
The world is boring, the story is boring and threadbare, the enemies are boring, the music is boring hell I could go on all day here.
Zelda is at its best when it's 20-25 hours of tight Nintendo perfection, you blast through it in a week, with diverse dungeons and settings and sick moment to moment gameplay.
BOTW is a fun sandbox for about 10 hours but it wears thin, and without an amazing story and characters to keep me engaged I found it seriously lacking.

Lots of good stuff in the game. However the breaking weapon mechanic is just unnecessary inventory management, and the dungoens if you can even call them that, a staple in the series, sucked ass. Not only were there just four of them, they were tedious and pretty much identical. In addition Calamity Ganon is a poor villain, compare that nonsense to ganondorf in ocarina of time.
Great open world game, but failed at the core gameplay that has made the legend of zelda a revered title

I tried to play Breath of the Wild two or three times and it kinda sucks ass.
Nonexistent music, and when it kicks in, sounds like generic garbage. Ooh wow, old themes redone with jazz chords! OMG, so innovative!
Instead of unique temples with memorable themes with significant thought put into them, 100+ generic copy-pasted "dungeons"
What is this horrible voice acting? King sounds like a zoomer trying to sound old, princess Zelda sounds absolutely ridiculous, like a terrible Dany impersonation. And 100 years old Impa sounds like a TikTok influencer doing a very poor attempt at old woman voice.
Barely any story to speak of, and when you do get any backstory, they lazily depict it on tapestries.
No recipe system, just shoot off from the hip in the dark.
At least a quarter of the time is spent in menus.
Weapons break every 10 strikes.
GIANT, MASSIVE open world...with nothing in it. Wow, the same goblin fight again! So epic!
An overrated heap when you compare it to other Zelda games. What makes me most puzzled is how people justify the endless fetch quests of Breath of the Wild but trash every Ubisoft title. I'd say BotW is even worse than the worst Assassin's Creeds games in terms of boring repetition.
Breath of the Wild, to me, in a word? Bland.

Agreed. My favorite moments were traversing the "dungeon" of the castle, peeking around corners in a small confined area. Suspenseful music, rare items, lots of secrets to discover. Shame that was the singular area in the game I could find that.
My second favorite part was probably the island where you lose all equipment and start from scratch. Evertide Isle?Dear Federal Agents- All my posts are serious and I am a threat to society.

It's really good. But if you go in thinking of it as a Zelda game it'll feel weird
Absolutely love the graphics, exploration, finding the little cities and different types of living things (gorons, zoras)
But the four beast dungeons fuking suck. Feel like they drag on and makes it less fun. Barely beat two and put off the game but will return laterR.I.P Greg Plitt

It’s a great game especially for its target youth audience and Zelda die hard fans. I hated the weapons breaking and lack of some kind of increased strength or something if you explored and fought more.
But all in all it’s a great game.Your nutrition and workout program determines your success.

Pretty much how I felt.
It was fun to run around for a while... But just didn't work as a Zelda game for me. **** got repetitive really fast, same exact shrines over and over and over. No reason to actually fight things. Lackluster as **** music
4 dungeons, and they were lame af. A final boss you can literally just walk up to and beat at the beginning of the game if you want, with equipment powerful enough to do so found all throughout Hyrule Castle.
Meh, whatever. The game was very visually appealing. But I don't enjoy Sandbox games to begin with so I donno what I expected.
It's probably still better than Skyward Sword... So there's that.
If you wanted a Zelda Sandbox, congrats.
Hopefully we'll get an actual classic Zelda game some time in the near future though.*Dallas Cowboys Crew*

I literally never hear anyone say this. The fact that they keep making the same games, successfully, for 30 years is a point of pride for Nintendo fans. Thats the type of thing you hear from jaded Xbox fans, maybe.
Skyward Sword was a classic formula Zelda game, and it was absolute chit.
I don't really think BOTW is a "bad" game... It's just not much like a Zelda game.*Dallas Cowboys Crew*

it started like that on NES due to hardware limitations, did a complete 360 for the next
following this they established the success formula and produced the one peak gaming experience after the other
now you tell me this was all unintended and the original formule is as it should be?+++ miscin' at work crew +++

I'm only telling you what the actual maker of Zelda wants/wanted Zelda to be.
Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto stated in an E3 interview that Zelda: Breath of the Wild “directly harkens back to the wide-open design philosophy of the very first Legend of Zelda”. Miyamoto explained, saying that “as the series progressed, there were more added features. As we started doing that, we realized that the game was becoming more and more sequential. We really wanted to go back to the original spirit of Zelda, which is freedom”. Miyamoto went on to state how “in past Zelda titles, there was a tendency for NPCs to explain everything about the world. We went back to the origins of Zelda, where [starting the game] you don’t know who you are, what you are supposed to do. In this new game, as you interact with nature and the world around you, you learn who you are”.
BOTW is THE Zelda game.
