Hyundai is on a hot streak in the U.S., but Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act could spoil it
Hyundai Motor Group is having its best years ever in the U.S.
The South Korean automaker has successfully moved from bargain economy vehicles and dancing hamsters to competing against formidable automakers in the highly profitable American market.
The company’s Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands are expected to capture nearly 11% of the U.S. new vehicle market this year — marking its highest level since the automaker entered the country in 1986. It’s also set to be among the top sellers of electric vehicles this year, trailing only Tesla through the third quarter.
But whether the world’s fourth-largest automaker by sales last year can continue that winning streak, especially in EVs, is in question. In August, Hyundai buyers lost federal tax credits associated with purchasing an electric vehicle due to changes in the program under the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act.

Uh I bought my wife a new Kia suv cuz I had her sell her 2 wheel drive truck which is unacceptable north of California.
Just ponied up for a new Yukon a few years later, think I broke off the gas cap the very first time I filled up gas in that plastic piece of chit. Never again. It looked alright for a Kia I guess.

there's two types of lifetime warranties, ill use tools as an example. snap-on and harbor freight both have lifetime warranties, one has a warranty because their tools are so high quality that they will hardly break anyway, the other because it costs them nothing to replace cheap the tools that will certainly break. I think its fair to assume Hyundai leans towards the "harbor freight" warranty mentality.

ugh the infamous JD power chart, plebs are so gullible.
"rankings are based on numerical scores, and not necessarily on statistical significance" in other words bullcrap
what does "problems per 100" mean and what do the scores represent? a broken cupholder carries the same weight as a bad transmission in this study. completely useless metric lol.

There are obvious limitations, it’s still one of the best reliability analyses I’m aware of and seems to otherwise back up other brands’ reputations for reliability or lack thereof. So I don’t see much reason to doubt a ranking that also has the Japanese brands where expected, Euro brands where expected, and Porsche unsurprising.
There’s lots of other stuff to consider thoughLast edited by Destor; 11-28-2022 at 05:42 PM.

Wife traded in her 2013 elantra and upgraded to the 2022 Tucson. It's been pretty nice to drive to be honest. Only feature which I find stupid is the auto-start feature. I can't imagine that's good for the engine to be turned off and on so much. Not to mention if you need power instantly in an emergency to get out of the way it might mean the difference between life and death I think.

it's the "theta" engine 2.0 & 2.4L in these cars. 4 million total. a defect in the rotating assembly of the engines causes seizure, stalling, engine failure, and engine fire
