Nintendo revealed today that the latest Pokémon games, Scarlet and Violet, collectively sold over 10 million units in their first three days on the market. It’s the highest sale level for any game on any Nintendo platform, says the publisher. The title may have received some criticism for its presentation, but gamers are buying it in droves.
According to Nintendo, this number includes both physical and digital versions. Usually reports of Nintendo’s product sales don’t include digital sales. Just for comparison, PlayStation today announced that God of War Ragnarök, its latest first-party game, sold 5.1 million copies in its first week. It’s the fastest-selling PlayStation first-party title ever, and its numbers are just above half those of the new Pokémon title.
Scarlet and Violet received criticism from gamers thanks to its lackluster graphics and well-documented bugs. Some have even attempted to get refunds on the game, with some apparent success. However, that is unlikely to have a major impact on sales numbers this big.

I mean it was a lot cooler back in the printed magazine era, and even in the early-mid 00's internet era. Really became chit in the PS3/360 era though, and it become toxic as hell in the PS4/One era.
I mean whenever I read one of the old gaming mags I have, it's amazing how much better and more entertaining it was. Gaming mags were made by gamers for gamers, none of the bullchit you see today would have been tolerated back then. They actually had a good sense of humor back then and it was all shamelessly centered around young men.

I think those of us who experienced that era do for the most part. It was back when the gaming scene was just all about having fun, relaxing, and not taking anything too seriously. When video games were all about entertainment and the journalism for them was entertaining.
Now it's like the entire scene has been taken over by political types that want to write news articles that take themselves and video games very seriously. It's not enough for games to be fun and entertaining anymore, they gotta be pushing serious messages and aspire to be something else.

that post from jay is like textbook depression. i couldn't imagine letting politics ruin gaming for me. i don't think a single day passes where he doesn't talk about something being woke.

The last one i played was Pokemon Silver.... These games must be pretty fun these days. When BOTW2 comes out i'll get a switch and maybe get a new pokemon game.

I saw this on penguinz0 and thought he was just making up a random name:
Now, I haven't kept up with pokemon since I was 8, but they're not even pretending to try, are they?
In line with the video I mentioned above, I was really dumbfounded by just how basic these games still are when this could have released in the gamecube era.
"God of War Valhalla!"
"Ubisoft called dibs"
"God of War Ragnarok!"
Watch it come out that they skipped a trilogy and jumped to Ragnarok because they couldn't think of a middle game's name.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine
My dark grave awaits, my fate is revealed - But I'm not afraid to die

Pokemon died to me after the first 151. Zero creativity since then. I wouldn't be surprised if 70-80 percent of sales are from people buying both versions.

Pokemon is the biggest franchise in the world. It eclipses everything else, it makes more money and has more outlets. And it doesn't really surprise me, if you think back to the 90s and how popular it was when it first hit. The show, the cards, the movies, the gameboy games and trading between Red + Blue.
