I mean nothing is really “necessary”, as there are multiple ways to hit various muscles/groups. But deadlifts are a good compound lift that hits several groups at once. Its more like what is the best bang for the buck/time.

Not necessarily at all IMO. Used to deadlift ~500 lbs but haven’t deadlifted in probably 2 years now. Haven’t noticed any detrimental effects on body composition

I would say no movement is "necessary" but some are more efficient than others for hypertrophy. I enjoy doing deadlifts, so I continue to work them into my split.

They seem almost useless for hypertrophy imo. They hit a bunch of muscles, but they don't hit any of them really great.

It is not necessary, especially if you do it wrong.

If you deadlift and have lower back pain, you are doing it wrong. Deadlifts can be a way to strengthen your lower back and not have lower back pain.

They can also be a way to have lower back pain...because you are a stupid ego lifter.

Absolutely no reason to deadlift for hypertrophy. Deadlift is ALL leverage. Plenty of twinks that deadlift 500+ lb just cause they have proportionally long arms and short torso.

One of the overlooked benefits of deadlifting is that they train the mental aspect of exerting maximal force against a heavy-ass weight and making it go up. This is even more true of the squat when working with heavy weight in lower rep ranges -- getting under a bar with some heavy ass weight loaded on it and walking it out of the rack, knowing that you have no choice but to squat down and back up (otherwise you're getting stapled). It trains a sense of fearlessness that you don't get from machines, dumbbells, or even submaximal barbell work in general -- and sure it's broscience but I think it's this aspect of training squats and deadlifts that gives you that test boost.
