It's too got dam emotional, I'd say they went overboard with the melodrama.
God of War 2018 had a decent balance of action, story and character development. And the kept all the emotional sh/t to a reasonable minimum.
But Ragnorok takes it overboard.
I'm rolling my eyes at some of these cut scenes.

3 liberal woke influencers got hired to write parts of the game. I saw it a month ago on Twitter with all their pics attached.
I can't find that tweet for the life of me now though. In other words, they did it on purpose. Idk what is up with Sony and woke. Terrific studios bungled up by woke politics.
And I'm not sure what they're gaining from it. Things started going downhill when Amy Hennig left (Uncharted writer) and Druckmann (The Last of Us) started sniffing his own farts. Now it's infecting the other studios too.Massive COVID19 overhyped scam

Watched for a good while on someone’s stream. Was thinking of getting it until then. Gonna be a hard pass. Way too many cutscenes and “go here, pick this up” repetitive stuff. A lot of games have that kinda stuff to some degree but there’s no way I could stay entertained from this one.

From what I've seen so far, the gameplay looks like button-mashing, not the strategic, pattern-based combat system of GOW and GOW 2 on the PS2.
Even GOW 3 was a button-masher with no real emphasis strategic combat.
Atreus/Loki is a cringe, emo teenager and Kratos sounds like too melodramatic....
IMHO, GOW 2 is still the finest in the series...Everything I post is satire

Lets face it, most Sony exclusives in general are cringe games. Most are just the same formulaic cinematic 2deep4u crap. Lots of cutscenes with melodrama loaded with button mashing QTE sequences, with some occasional walking around and shooting to break it up. It's amazing how some people are still such suckers for it.

Yup. I could appreciate the PS3 though since Sony was still trying to make some real games back then and they didn't have their head up their ass trying to produce 2deep4u content. That and GT6 is probably always going to be one of my GOAT games.
But yeah, the 360 is when Xbox came on strong with some great exclusives and just great games all around. The original Xbox had some classics, but it was an era when they were still trying to find themselves and establish a brand, I think a lot of us didn't know what to make of it at first.
Xbox One will always be the most underrated platform for me though. GOAT Forza games and great backwards compatibility in an era when everyone else was trying to do away with it. The Series X basically took everything that was good about the One and improved upon it.

Im playing it now and it will be the last Gods of War I play.
When did games become 80% cut scenes. I've been playing it about 10 hours and feel I've only had 2 hours of game time...and the gameplay is nothin like its predecessors, they were non-stop action and this is just walking along a path to your next opponent. If people want to say the old games were still slash and burn, at least they were GOOD slash and burn. This is just boring and my frustration has far outpaced the fun factor.
...and you cant even skip through the never ending cut scenes. At least give me a button that I can jump past this garbage. The developers decided it was a great idea to force you to sit there and watch through it.
I have no interest in this story line and Im not impressed with the game at all...I spent $60 bucks on it so I will force myself to play through it.Last edited by Scarrdbutsmartr; 11-21-2022 at 08:47 AM.

I thought the 2018 GoW was incredible. The dragon in the water popping up for the first time was jaw dropping. The story was incredible too.
Minor spoilers below.
As for Ragnarok? Angorboda is black. Loki makes stupid decisions and you have to play as him to get out of those decisions. There is nothing improved from the previous game whether it's graphics or gameplay. There are too many fights with trash like those floaty eye looking things.Pureblood crew

I loved 2018. I said it earlier after only playing the opening couple of hours and now having played more, the writing is definitely worse. Also, it seems like they took the opportunity after the success of 2018 to add a lot more political themes that they want to push.

I never had high expectations when I first learned about them shoving in a kid because one of the leads was "inspired" after having one of his own gremlins, and especially the whole Nu-Kratos angle that really should have just been a completely different series/IP with how they changed so much it's a borderline retcon. But if they were going to do Norse mythology, no way they could cover much cramming it all into only two games. Now that it's out, it sounds pretty lame from what I've read, but anything that puts "Ragnarok" in the title is almost guaranteed to disappoint regardless because no matter the medium, it seems to escape creators that Ragnarok is the cataclysmic event in Norse mythology. And from what I understand, GOW doesn't do anything really of note when it comes to it, either.
I've said it before, but the original God of War trilogy actually taps into the ethos of mythology across the globe far better than whatever cinematic, deconstructive drivel they're trying to come up with these days precisely because of how over the top primal and violent they were. Like, read some ancient mythology - it doesn't matter which culture - they're all absolutely balls to the walls, and that is part of what makes them so great. It's almost like an explanation/acceptance for how cruel, uncaring, and unjust life truly is through the figures and gods. A demi-god being so pissed off that he wants to murder the entire pantheon is the sort of thing that makes for a perfect new take on myths of old. A mopey dad and his kid written by a punch of prototypical modern californians? Nah, I'm good.
This is what they chose at Sony:
