Police in Moscow, Idaho, investigating the fatal stabbings of four University of Idaho students said Friday that they don't believe the two surviving roommates are involved in the crime.

The victims, who were killed in a house near campus early Sunday morning and found hours later, were identified as Ethan Chapin, 20, of Conway, Washington; Madison Mogen, 21, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Xana Kernodle, 20, of Avondale, Arizona; and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, of Rathdrum, Idaho.

No suspects are in custody.

The victims were likely asleep at the time of the attack and each was stabbed multiple times, police said Friday, citing the coroner. Some had defensive wounds, police said. There is no indication of any sexual assault, the coroner said.

Two female surviving roommates were at the house at the time and were not hurt, according to Moscow Police Chief James Fry.

The Moscow Police Department also learned that Goncalves and Mogen used a private party for a ride home from Grub Truck at approximately 1:40 a.m. Police had previously said they used Uber, but later revised their statement.

It's believed the four students were killed between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday, Moscow Mayor Art Bettge told ABC News.

Knife is intimate but the lack of sexual assault is interesting. Part of me thinks whoever it was is someone they didn’t know because if it was a pissed off ex boyfriend or lover he would know that she would have roommates. If you’re going to do something like that premeditated you wouldn’t put yourself in a situation where you literally had to kill a house of people too risky, unless it was a crime of passion. I.e. fight breaks out, guy kills ex / gf / lover, realizes what he does panics and has to kill the rest. Could explain the other phone calls as the girls could’ve heard a heated argument and wanted to call jack for support or help

That or stranger followed them home from party or food truck, probably a degenerate strange townie, he planned to assault one but again didn’t realize it was a house full of girls so resorted to killing everyone

If it was someone they knew then cops should be able to land on that fast by interviewing jack, phone records, student interviews, DNA (there’s no way there isn’t dna of the killer or finger prints based on all the defensive wounds)

It its a townie GUARANTEE he’s had run ins with law enforcement before. With how small that town is shouldn’t take long to look through priors and get a suspect list

But these small town cops will likely **** up what probably is a straightforward case

Possible or guy who works in a kitchen (mexican?). I just read somewhere that they mentioned "long knife"...who else uses a long knife other than kitchen workers? I have several knives all small flip knives. The good small knives are actually really cool re: industrial design btw.

Jack is Jack DuCoeur, Goncalves’ sister, Alivea Goncalves, told The New York Times. She said her sister and DuCoeur, who is also a student at the university, were childhood friends who dated for years and recently decided to take an amicable break from their relationship.

My theory is that it was an intended sexual assault gone haywire. Person woke up and made some noise and the killer freaked. Maybe another person got up and got killed after hearing the noise.

Unless they were all killed in their beds, which I had seen mentioned but don't remember seeing actually reported as fact.

Some people are speculating that it was Madison Mogen's BF/Ex BF ? He was potentially identified as the creepy fella lurking around by his white nike shoes with a black swoosh. He was seen wearing them in an Instagram photo and they seem to be the same shoes of the person in the food truck video. In the food truck video it was very suspicious how he was hovering behind them and then pointed in their direction and followed once they left.
