Sounds interesting. Are you certain of that model number? I can't find it anywhere.

I was just thinking a functional trainer (cable crossover) with the ability to affix hooks so it could function as a squat rack and a rack for chest presses, and plate storage on the side(s), would be perfect for my needs. Oh yeah: And a bar that could be hooked to each of the cables for lat pull-downs

ETA: May have found it? Though the page doesn't mention "F740." They call it the "F738 RFT Pro Rack Functional Trainer." Looks kind of large with the plate storage attached.

Yeah think I got that wrong. Looks like the F730 is the base rack, then you can tack on a bunch of options from there.

Yeah, it'd be cool, but, like you said: $3600. *ouch* I don't think that'd fly with the family CFO. Right now I'm planning on either the Body-Solid PFT100 Functional Trainer at $1500 or the Body-Solid BFFT10r for less than $1k. (Though the latter is probably too light-weight for my use.)

That seems like a bargain compared to the Rep Ares system with similar functionality.

Forum's inundated with spam. There doesn't appear to be anybody at the helm. Whomever owns the place seems to be ignoring offers of help. Yet I can't post photos or links because I don't yet have fifty posts <smhs>

    Instead of being "blunt"

Maybe mention some of the spam threads are starting to advertise escort agencies. Major legal implications.

I didn't specify the nature of some of the spam, but I did note it was of an objectionably nature.

I reported some of the spam and nothing ever happened to it. Seems like there's nobody left monitoring this place.

I would have reported it all, but the required 60 second wait between reports is too much of a PITA.

I'm strongly beginning to suspect that.

I also suspect, as others have, that neither this forum nor the business are long for this world. I checked out the store. Most of the product category pages are either empty or simply list supplements (when the category isn't supplements). Several other indications nobody's minding the store--both literally and figuratively.

In fact: As a retired I.T. Admin I'll tell you just what it looks like: It looks like they lost their site admin and the keys to it went with him/her. They don't actually have admin access to it, themselves, anymore.

I'll eventually be needing supplement re-supply on a couple things. My first impulse is always to try a vendor's forum's store or sponsors. But what I'm seeing, here, with the complete lack of attention to the site, would encourage me to look elsewhere.

A few weeks ago it was down for a few days and came back, so evidently somebody still has some access.

Would really be a shame to lose this forum. There is a huge wealth of knowledge archived here.

I'm on a few Facebook gym groups and the lack of knowledge about equipment in spite of 5-6 figure membership numbers is astounding. Then again, these people consider guys like Coop to be experts. :x Hope BB forums keep going.

Enlighten me: Why should they be avoided?

They wouldn't be my first choice, but, if I come across a killer deal I'll jump on it. There are many things I do with DBs for which they wouldn't be useful, but, other things for which they would. Having a pair would reduce the number of plate-changes necessary on my Hoit adjustable DBs.

It's been a LONG standing opinion that Bowflex in general is a garbage company, that puts out garbage products. These DB's were once sold at Dick's Sporting Goods so they were easy to check out in person, but I'd say about 95% of the time the models I saw at the store were broken. Lots of plastic parts and little moving mechanisms internally, so unless you absolutely baby them there is a good chance they'll break on you eventually. Compare that to sets of Powerblocks, which I've owned several that were probably 15-20 years old and were still operating like new. Or Ironmasters where the same could be said, longevity wise there really aren't any concerns.

Long story short, Coop makes money off people clicking the links to products on his website. So his opinion is biased and he'll likely never give a real recommendation (or opinion) because he wants to make money off your visit. No respectable home gym owner would recommend ANYTHING Bowflex when there are better options available.

Good point. There was a sporting goods place--can't recall the name anymore--nearby, went out of business a few years ago, that had them. Yup: The display models were broken.

    *nod*

Probably best if I kept my eyes peeled for a good deal on a set of one of those.

this forum was the only place I could go to and talk shop with other nerds like myself about vintage equipment. Literally nowhere else. Until these young bodybuilders put up videos using a Pendulum Squat, no one (except in a forum like this) knew what it was. Good luck finding a discussion about Randy Coyle and a Swing Squat. Yes, this forum is unique to say the least and even though I'm not on as much as I used to be, I'd be very sad to see it go.
