This place was the place to come for gym equipment a few years back. I am not a huge fan of GGR or any other ******** pages on home gyms that are live these days. I come a few times a month to see what is going on this forum but it is sad to see that it is not as popular as it was before…

I wish that most people would come on here but i think that outside people that are already here it is a matter of time before this place becomes history!

Still great to see you guys are still doing great!

Depending on what part of MN you're in, I may have already ignored your ads. Heh.

I think the market's in a new normal after the pandemic purchasing glut, gyms reopening, and with all the current economic doom and gloom. Still waiting for the dude that bought a full set of roundheads or something in 2020 to let them go for pennies, but alas.

A big killer of these types for forums is too many stickys. Ex. Someone looking for info on barbells will come here, read the sticky and be done. There is no need to ask a question and spark a conversation about it. It's great information but it kills the need for discussion.

I use a similar board for my Mustang https://www.vintage-mustang.com/ it's very active. Sure, we have the same questions asked repeatedly and we have the same discussions over and over. But enthusiasts love that.

I would remove all the spam posts and unstick the stickies.

I like this specific subforum, the only one I visit here in bbf, but lately all these spam threads are getting out of hand. No disrespect to anybody and no judgement on how everybody spends time and energy, but are there any moderators or not?

I would not make a good full-fledged moderator but I wonder if they could make me a deputy moderator or something. I'd like to just delete spam threads and ban spammers from the fitness forums. No chance I want to monitor the misc section.

I think the biggest problem is that the forum platform hasn't been kept up to date and because of that it just plain sucks. I can't post pictures, search is nearly useless, and the rules are archaic and unfriendly to new posters. The most successful forums are run by people who are passionate about the topic because there's little to no profit to be had in it. This one attempted to be a business and it's clear there has been nearly no investment into it for a long, long time. A lot of people probably just got tired of dealing with it.

It's too bad because this place set the standard for well over a decade and the people who are left are still some of the most knowledgeable and helpful around. But it seems Bodybuilding.com is content to let it wither and die.
Without being able to share pics or even post a YT video, there is no hope unless a new owner takes over. And I don't think that will happen since bb.com makes it's mulah from the storefront.

I'm sad that most of the historical content seems to be lost. This was a great resource for lots of different pieces of equipment. If you were looking at something used/older, there was probably a thread on it. It can't cost much to run most of this forum, so shame on BB.com for the neglect.

I agree the broken photo upload is a huge problem. You can still upload from a link so you can upload to imgur, link that here (which will transfer the actual file) then just don't save on imgur. Same end result just a bigger hassle.

That would be good if they did elect you a deputy mod, periodically clear the crap threads off the forum...there's so many spam threads right now that I'm tempted to duplicate this titled thread, or maybe the regulars band together and post this thread title as well, or similar titled threads and see if the mods see it and finally get the hint.

If you come here talking about anything other than commercial equipment, you'll likely just be told to buy plates, a rack and a barbell...

...it's the right answer if someone wanted to achieve fitness in the most efficient way, but only a small % of the public would ever find that workout appealing.

Even when you walk into a commercial gym, often the least amount of activity is over in the free weight section.

The site has been far too rigid to expand the types of user here, imo.

Got something to sell? Can't do it here!

    LOL

I personally like the equipment forum here, but it is stale as fukk.
"plates, a rack and a barbell..."

Ha, add dumbbells and that's basically what I have. But I did just score a multi grip pull up bar and some lever arms of CL last week.

Well I mean "plates, a rack and a barbell" is the correct answer and there are a lot things you can add from there. Fads come and go but I think most people who stick with lifting come to that conclusion eventually.

Does anyone even know who the moderators are for this forum? Is it possible to get new ones? The spam has gotten insane. I'll volunteer to moderate. I don't post much because I rarely get new equipment, but I check in here almost daily and love reading the posts. I'd be willing to clean up the spam and ban the spammers. Currently we have at least 2 solid pages of nothing but spam. The real posts get buried instantly.
I'm a weightlifter, just starting to add some bodybuilding into my training. I'm mostly here for the equipment forum.

Moderators should first start by cleaning up the spam threads if we want to save anything here...

I am a long-time member, but infrequent poster. The decline in forum use and popularity disappoints me, also. I will be further disappointed if the historical content of some specific forums, especially automotive, becomes inaccessible. More than the social aspect, I appreciate the preserved knowledge. However, I understand there is probably little to no incentive for most forum owners to maintain forums without traffic, to which I contribute little. I have wondered specifically about the lack of effective moderation on this forum. Now I understand better. I have very much enjoyed in the past following the “home gym build” threads here, and continued to check in occasionally for any interesting, new content. Very little of that now.

This forum, specifically a “heads up” post by ndmike99 in 2011, allowed me to purchase a Parabody rack, FID bench, lat tower, 300lb weight set, and accessories for $200. That became the nucleus of my “home gym”, and prompted me to move on from the Bowflex unit I purchased new many years previous. Except for the bar and that specific lat tower, which was replaced by a later, upgraded revision of the same model, I continue to use that equipment every week. I am still grateful for that purchase opportunity.

I still use a Parabody 843 with lat tower, leg holdown, and dip handles that I purchased about 18 years ago. It replaced a Soloflex. For several years now I have been looking at upgrading but I haven't found anything that I think I'd like quite as well at a reasonable price. Those pop pins are just so convenient.

Doesn't surprise me at all, that was a great rack! I'd have stuck with my Bodycraft F430 but once you convert to a half rack it's hard going back to a full rack. Even though there is a ton of working space between the uprights I still felt cramped and just couldn't get the feeling out of my head. The new Bodycraft F740 looks insane with the updated sandwich hooks, weight storage add on, and cable crossover. But that's a painful price tag at $3,599!

Yeah think I got that wrong. Looks like the F730 is the base rack, then you can tack on a bunch of options from there.

That seems like a bargain compared to the Rep Ares system with similar functionality.

Well, I just sent Bodybuilding.com another request--this time via their contact form.

i was a little... blunt, so, if you don't see me around anymore, you'll know why.

    Instead of being "blunt"

Maybe mention some of the spam threads are starting to advertise escort agencies. Major legal implications.

I reported some of the spam and nothing ever happened to it. Seems like there's nobody left monitoring this place.

I would have reported it all, but the required 60 second wait between reports is too much of a PITA.
