Question Anyone wear a belt while lifting?

I never have but 2 weeks ago I made a post about popping something while deadlifting. I appreciate whoever posted that guy about doing air lifts and stuff. Pretty much been doing back workouts everyday and got a belt. It’s not bad. I’m going to focus on light dead’s and core stuff until I’m 110% again

I don’t know what I have but I don’t think it’s my back. It’s like constipation and poop presses against my spine or something inside of me is inflamed. It’s been off and on for years. If I sleep for over 5 hours I will be in bad pain until I poop

Yeah on squats and deadlifts but it's not really a safety thing. It should allow you to put more weight on the bar. The few times I snapped my chit up I was wearing a belt.

Seriously not trolling here, but doesn't a belt petty much at minimum, hamper the exact muscles that are supposed to deal with that lift?

To me, lifting without a belt may keep my load lower, but I'm actually building those muscles for heavier loads later, vs using an outside force to pump those numbers.

In other words, I'd rather lift X-, without a belt, and work up to what I could lift with a belt, vs the opposite.

I don’t don’t strength work so I don’t need a belt. I would say if you work in the 1-5 rep range, you should look into it.

I wore belts and knee wraps when I would squat heavy, but I don't do that anymore, so I have no need for those.

if you're a heavy lifter, I'd say they're essential for stability and safety.

    Nah.

I train core pretty hard and I also make sure not to ego lift.

Basically if it's heavy to the point I feel strain in my core then either I need a stronger core and/or the weight is flat out too heavy.

It just seems counterproductive to me. I feel like I'm taking muscle groups out of the process, and not working them with a belt on.

Totally not directed at you at all, but my approach to lifting has always been form based, vs weight. IDGAF if people are laughing at me for lifting "only x weight", while I'm doing it properly. Pretty sure that's kept me from a few injuries.

That's just me though. Everyone is different.

That's kind of my question though. Wouldn't a natural progression to lifting heavy, developing the core muscles over time, be more efficient and practical for the heavy lifts vs needing a belt or wrap?

I am 41yo with nothing left to prove to anybody but myself...was involved in a pretty nasty car accident in 2018 that has left me with what I assume is permanent damage to my back so I have had to experiment with different training methods to hit certain muscle groups... Having to incorporate a quality weight lifting belt was unfortunately was part of that... well unfortunately at first... Personally I feel like using one helps me focus more on certain muscle groups I am trying to hit int the first place and is not just pretty much standard on leg or back day.

the belt engages your abs, your abs pushing against the belt is what gives you the stability. You're getting core development either way, you might as well add stability, too. Core exercises should always be a part of your exercise regimen anyway.

All of that weight causes your knees to want to move outward. Knee wraps help keep them lined up straight and also add stability. Wraps protect your tendons, too.

    Exclamation

I just love deadlifting. I was warming up on 405 like nothing but this crap is a bit mental. It all started one day when I ate 2 medium pizzas and 8 wings from doninoes and then got on the keg press fully loaded and something popped. Then at a furniture hub a couch was strapped down and I went full speed trying to pick it up and that messed me up bad. Just off and on usually once a year from then.

Not anymore. Just disrupts my body positioning.

Bracing core, glutes, back and the other supporting muscles.
