Lol what did you get?
Gaming laptops now are like 4 lbs more or less. You should be on the workout sub more if you cannot carry a 4 lb laptop bro.
I use mine the same as desktop, I have 2 monitors connected to it and it stays on my table when I'm home. But the good thing about it is I can bring it on my business travels and connect it to the hotel TV when I'm away. You cant do that on a desktop.
Its not that expensive anymore, IIRC, when I got mine during the Covid time, it's $1500 with Ryzen 5900HS and GTX 3070 and I'm still using it now on my games.
If I waited for a couple of months, I could have gotten the one with 3080 for $1800.
Steamdeck is nice but the specs is still inferior than a lot of laptops out there.Steam - jinda28
Origin - jinda628

These are only good for people that actually want to be able to move locations and play intense games
Even if it's heavy it's still portable in a sense. You cant just bring an ATX case with you.
Other than that, laptops are pretty trash. I'm about to build a new desktop to replace my HP Omen 17t - 9750h/2080 (high TDP) laptop- it actually is a beast for $1600 or so I paid when the 2080 was the top of the line GPU at the time.. Another issue is cooling- usually the CPU and GPU are tied together from the heatsink so it overheats. I've been able to bring this with me (even though I don't, I'll bring my lighter surface book) when traveling. Then again, I was limited to the 1 smaller screen vs. 28" 1440p/165hz + 1080p side monitors that it runs at my home.USMC 0311

I have a HP Omen 15, OP is off on some but nails it with some.
It's loud. Loud as ****. I need headphones a lot of the time to just not deal. The battery on mine is dogchit, so much that I wonder if it's defective at times. I need to use it plugged in. On the loudness, mine is a 2020, I recall reading about the most recent OMEN 17 and the review said it's very quiet compared to the older ones and that's probably true w/ many recent ones.
However, was not overly expensive. $1,300ish if I recall and another $200 to put in a second harddrive with another OS.
I use it as a portable device to setup where I might go and not too often in that, it mostly sits in the same place and I use it for productivity, watching videos while drinking morning coffee and playing games on the weekend w/ bros.
No regrets getting it but I think moving forward when I replace it, I don't know if I'll get another laptop. Since then I've gotten ahold of a Steam Deck and that is way more portable. I live in the country so my home internet is pretty weak, but if/when it gets better and I can stream games reliably, I probably will not get another laptop and just stream from a desktop w/ the deck on the go.[QUOTE=Bodhy;1660771503]Q. What kind of piece of chit laptop did you buy?
Sounds like you got one of those big box store discount specials. You can't cheap out on gaming laptops and expect good results.
Anyways my gaming laptop has always been great. If you wanted something handheld, the Steam Deck would have been the obvious choice. Gaming laptops are basically just portable desktops anyways, you aren't really meant to be gaming with them away from a desk or table. Have you tried gaming with a trackpad? It sucks.

I bought a laptop from Costco in 2010 after being a consolecel for a while
1 day later returned it and ordered the parts to build a gaming desktop PC. Never looked back.Yes... come and let us make an end of it. It matters not, even cornered, to my last breath... I remain who and what I am. I will not hide, nor tremble, nor beg. Let them come and reckon with fury that is DOOM defiant.

It isn't 2010 anymore...
Laptop GPUs can pretty easily deal with 144hz 1080p which is fine for a 14 inch portable.
The Asus Rog Zephyrous is 3.8 lbs.
Not saying you should pick it up over a desktop, but it isn't going to be a bad experience. It isn't my 7.8 Lbs Alienware brick I had in college.Finance Degree - USAF INTEL - IIFYM - Injured Crew - KTM XCW300 - Single Track Trail Rider - NRA Supporter - Shunned from MFC - Libertarian - Pragmatist

Yup, I just got a nice clean setup with a good one at my desk, none of that larping as a streamer bullchit. Just a nice Falcon Northwest with a custom paint job. Heck mine isn't even that bad when playing games in terms of fan noise, if I crank it up all the way it's loud but it never needs it. Plays everything I want with a 144hz monitor. Hard to complain.
