New to lifting and wanting to burn belly fat

Im new to weight lifting. I’m 20 years old, 5’5 and I’m skinny fat (my arms and legs are skinny but I’m starting to get fat on my stomach) I want to burn that stomach fat and grow muscle. Anyone have any advice?

You can't target or spot reduce fat (belly fat), you can only be in an overall calorie deficit and genetics will determine how and where the fat comes off. That being said, not everyone is a candidate for fat loss depending on your current body composition.

Go back 1 page, read the Don't Look Past the Basics sticky thread near the top of the forum.

All it takes is consistency, effort, proper nutrition, good programming, and TIME.

Don't be upset with the results you didn't get from the work you did not do.

this is just half of the puzzle, so let me ask for the other half: how much do you weigh?

also like squid said, you can't spot reduce fat

Higher calories help build muscle, lower calories help lose fat. You have to choose what you focus on at any given time. Everyone is looking for the holy grail that lets them do both at the same time but it's not possible - or at least not efficient compared to simlply doing phases of one or the other.

All info is in the BASICS sticky thread.
