a 3060 is already $500.
The 4080 is 2-4x faster.
If true, I rather spend the extra $300 on the 4080.
Hopefully the 3000s starts to drop in price even more.

That's why I went with a 2060 12GB for my older PC. The RX580 I had was struggling even at medium settings with newer games. Some dragon fights in elden ring in Farum Azula I had to turn down to low to keep from crashing. The 2060 easily maxes out any game I am playing at 1080 and even runs smoothly at 1440.
I didn't want to stick a $500 card in an old box. And If I am going to pay that much for a card that won't even do 4k properly I might as well just wait for another generation and see how the 40xx series is priced vs it's performance. The lower memory 4080 doesn't sound like a bad deal if it's performance is double that of the 3080.Motorcycle crew

u wot m8
you said the 2060 is faster and linked userbenchmarks with photos saying
now you changing the entire story, pls go.
yea if you want to compared nvidia 3000 series to amd 6000 series we can do so.
but don't pretend you didn't say what you said and link what you linked which caused the discussion of userbenchmarks being a load of BS seeing how they tricked you into thinknig the 2060 is better than a 6700xt which is similar to a 2080ti.
but just like my original post about the 6700xt being on par with a rtx 3070.. your tom's review states just that. and the rtx 3060ti and rtx 3070 are basically the same, a simple overclock and the 3060ti matches the 3070, which makes the 3060ti FE version (at MSRP of course) the best value at the time when cryto was booming, but right now with the fall of GPUs theres $500 used rtx 3080's floating on ebayLast edited by rocketfish; 10-03-2022 at 11:35 AM.

not sheriff you're talking about mining or everyday users
I'd rather buy a card that I know was mined on 24/7 than one that sat in a normie's PC any day of the week and twice on Sunday
miners usually undervolt their GPU's for heat and electricity reasons. and because the computer is always running, it's less wear and tear than constant on/off cycles and 100% load to 5% load that a GPU sees in a normal gaming environment+++ Positive Crew +++

I love how we’re supposed to just ignore the huge performance gap between the 4080 12GB and 16GB and pretend the 12GB card shouldn’t have been a 4070.
You don’t lose performance like that with two cards that have the same memory speed, etc unless playing a game that’s actually exceeding the memory. And absolutely nothing gaming wise uses 12GB to my knowledge, ESPECIALLY if we’re only talking 1080P and 1440P.
To be honest, none of these early numbers are overly impressive when you take away the DLSS 3.0 and RT performance. I’m very curious to see what the new AMD cards can do.
As of now, I don’t think I’ll be getting rid of my 3080 any time soon unless AMD has something on the 4080 16GB level that’s cheaper than Nvidia’s offering.

the 4080 12gb don't even share ANYTHING from the 4080 16gb beside the name to give a higher price. Not cut from the same GPU die, not the same memory speed, NOTHING.
Also the 4060 and 4070 do exist, their GPU dies are made but you aren't going to get a release on those til nvidia 3000 series is mostly sold out, prediction is summer 2023, but reality if AMD brings out its mid tier cards Nvidia's hands will be forced for an earlier release than expected.
AD102 Full Size is yet to be seen, but this is the RTX 4090TI
AD102 Cut Down = RTX 4090
AD103 Cut Down = RTX 4080 16gb
AD104 = RTX 4080 12gb (The 104 die was always the 70 series thats why everyone is calling it a 4070*)
AD105 = ?? Not announced but we can obviously assume the 4070, which this die used to be 60 series
AD106 = ?? Not announced but we can obviously assume the 4060 and then cut down from there to make other various cards
AD107 = ?? Not announced but the low low end
normally the 102 chip from Nvidia would be the previous high end 80 series (980, 1080, 2080) but they created a new model, the 90 series, and pushed everything down now one entire GPU chip... At least with rtx 3000 series the 3090 and 3080 shared the same GPU die, thats why they were so close in performance... this now brings the RTX 4000 series where GPU die that the 80 series normally got is solely the 90 series now and you see everything pushed down one entire GPU die and now we have a brand new chitty 4080 12gb thats really a 4070 with a 80 series price tag.Last edited by rocketfish; 10-05-2022 at 02:05 PM.

I would say the 4090 numbers are impressive
going by that chart specifically the 4090 jump is fairly substantial. TBF we see here only one game, but it's more than double the performance of the 3080. Apples to apples would be against the 3090 but as we all know from last gen the 3090 is only ~10% faster than 3080. Pricing is similar, $100 increase is less than the rate of inflation. Compared to other gens that a much larger jump in raster than what is normal. Thats not considering RT or Dlss 3 either
4080 16gb shows an "okay" jump in performance but bad value proposition
my bet is that sometime Q2 of 2023, after they clear most of the 3000 series stock, they will drop the prices of the 4080s by quite a lot. There is a huge performance gap between the 4080 and 4090, they have a ton of room there for a 4080ti that will most likely sit at $1200
that would take the 4080 16gb down to $800-900 which is much more reasonable.

It was posted by Nvidia but the performance test was done by blizzard themselves as part of hype for release of overwatch 2. Highly doubt the numbers are incorrect, especially considering that reviews will be released in a few days and it would be so easy for reviewers to test. Treat the chart as being 99% accurate

4080 12gb its about 20% faster than the 3080 in this game. this puts it inline with a 3090ti +/- a few %. This may change in 4k though need to wait for reviews
as for "4070", im not sure when they will release it but it wont be until 3xxx series stock clears. It's will probably be same die as the 4080 12gb so i think performance will be in line minus maybe 10-15% which should still allow it to outperform a 3080. Most likely they make it a 4070ti and have it push up against the 4080 12gb in performance. with 3xxx series cards out of the picture they can do their price cuts and release it more competitively
What sells that particular sku will be its features. If your building from scratch/ waiting on the fence to upgrade, Dlss 3 and the large uptick in raytracing while at the same time still being faster than the 3080 in rastor will be what sells it. Instead of looking for a cheap 3080 on the used market you can get a new card with the bells and whistles.
I expect large price cuts to both 4080s when 3xxx series stock clears which will allow for competitive 4070 and 4060 pricing later onLast edited by EliteBrah; 10-06-2022 at 07:28 AM.
