(only the first 19 minutes are about the GPU's, the rest of the video is AI chit for corporations)
RTX 4090
24gb - $1599
RTX 4080 16gb and 12gb models
16gb version $1,199
12gb version with about 2,000 less cuda cores, and slower memory bus $899
They increased pricing big time over last generation.. Nvidia managed to create a new "top of the line model" with last gen's 3090 while pricing the 3080/4080 with top tier pricing..
Jensen in his announcement even said these are "Enthusiast Cards with the 3000 series being for consumers"
Likely they have way too many RTX 3000 series still and pricing the RTX 4000 series out so people just settle buying RTX 3000 series then have "Good discounts for the 4000 series next year" They drove away EVGA and likely want to be the only gpu maker of their cards.
DLSS 3.0 is locked to 4000 series as well.
In Conclusion: AMD Save us.

I have a 3080ti and unless I get a 4k 144hz screen there's not much room left to grow here. Already pushing 1440p 240hz pretty well in anything I play.
Eventually when 3rd party cards are out I may consider getting myself an upgrade and putting my 3080ti in my gfs pc to replace the 1080ti in there nowSometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

tbf they have backlog of 3000 series gpus which are currently way down in price. they dont want them to compete right now so they are selling the 4000 as a premium until stock dries out for 3000 series
I expect price drops on the 4080 considering where the 4090 is pricing wise. It's significantly more powerful for only ~30% more money. It's actually never been like this before as with halo cards the $$ vs performance gain is usually dismal
probably after the holidays when 3000 gpus clear, sometime in Jan or Feb i expect big price cuts

also the rtx 4080 16gb and rtx 4080 12gb have such a performance difference that Jensen basically rebranded the rtx 4070 into the rtx 4080 12gb... they aren't even the cut from the same die.. thats fukin crazy
i think we are getting scammed this gen (srs)
This is AMD's chance to match last gen's pricing and bring on EVGA to piss off nvidia.Last edited by rocketfish; 09-20-2022 at 01:55 PM.

dlss 3.0 is a gamechanger though.
basically has the ability to supercharge your cpu bound games. for example you could have an AMD gpu from 10years in the future and you would be stuck at probably 70-75fps in MS flight simulator because of cpu limitations.
With dlss 3 you can get 100fps+ which is crazy
also the 4090 pricing is reasonable. the 3090 launched for what, 1500? with how insane inflation has been i would expect the 4090 to be priced higher. especially with the huge gap in performance which is more than the typical generation jump of 30-50%

Are there any games out there that push visuals so hard that we could get any real significance out of these cards?
Cyberpunk and flight sim already look crazy good on the 3080/90.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

right now the only benefits owning this would be if you are a crazy flight simulator guy.. they showed you can get 4k with RT at over 100fps.. but right now no game pushes the boundaries like that game does..
so if you must have RT + 120+fps at 4k at the same time, these GPU's are for you.. if you are RT off kind of gamer, the only reason if you truly just want to push MAX fps on some of these latest 4k240hz monitors.*** Free Thinker Crew ***

Are graphics that important to people to justify that price? I don’t know, personally I’ve always preferred great gameplay and couldn’t care less what the graphics looked like.

As someone with a 3090 since the month it was launched, pleasantly surprised 4090 isn't THAT much more. Only went up $100.
That said, as someone with a 3090 and 3 1440p 144hz monitors, I don't think I'm going to need an upgrade until some great display tech comes out.i7-14700k

perfect time for them to announce these high power using cards, especially for euro customers. they'll be paying out of their ass, but at least they won't freeze in the winter.

the vast majority of gamers aren't buying the latest and greatest every time it drops. not everyone can afford it, but some people just like talking about the tech and the capability to upgrade modularly. a lot of gamers look forward to new releases so the previous cards (which are still quite good) will drop in price. if i buy a high end card i'm expecting it to last me several years.

Meh, that's just a hobby in itself, and it's something that I got out of my system a long time ago.
I'm just at the point where I want good reliable access to the library of games I got, and the Series X is pretty much all I need when it comes to keeping up with the occasional latest game thanks to GamePass. My gaming laptop and Steam Deck seem to work great for most niche PC games as well, you really don't need some super-powered PC for the vast majority of games out there.

2080TI in my desktop and the 3060 in my laptop still doing fine, maybe when the 50XX drops I'll get around to upgrading.

Not much more than the 30 series cards so it's a no brainer to go from 20 series to 40 series.
The 12gb 4080 is quite an upgrade from a 2080.
The 30 series was the skippable gen since stock was unavailable and prices were ridiculous. A 3060 is going for $400+ still. ...
I bought a 2060 for 200 bucks and it handles 1080p just fine. A 4080 on a 12th gen build with ddr5 should be future proof for years at 4k.Motorcycle crew
