Curious to hear your reasoning behind the 308 recommendation for long range precision. Ammo availability? I reload almost everything so I'm not very in tune there. Just for performance/availability I'd push someone starting long range precision towards a 6 creedmoor 1st and a 6.5 creedmoor 2nd. Although most of my shooting is done with reloads, I have shot a bit of Hornady match in those cartridges and it is really good.

Great succinct video, about 5 min long. Point #28 is a perfect example of how the AFT has been operating lately.

If the pistol brace thing does come to pass without recourse then 16" barrels may become hard to find for a year or so

Imagine a million or three people looking for 16" barrels

might be something to go ahead and get ahead of for anyone thinking of that possible route

I can't even imagine there's a panic over barrels. Especially when you could just go straight up buffer tube and be legal.

If it does happen and stick then 16" barrels will be in much higher demand for some period of time

The sichiation will be split between 1) those who do nothing extra[EDIT: or take their pistol brace off like you said], 2) those who buy 16" [or 14.5"/13.9/etc P&W barrels], and 3) those who do the NFA $200 stamp

You'll still be able to find some 16" barrels here and there but for the picky type their favorite barrel choice from DD, Criterion, BCM, Faxon, BA, etc may not be easily found for a long time again

Imagine settling for a Bear Creek 16" government profile phosphate when your heart's set on a Daniel Defense CHF chrome lined or a Faxon Match Gunner 223 Wylde

It's just something to think about for those who care. I care so I went ahead and got my fave 16" barrel choice to replace a 12.5"

That's fair enough. I've got enough uppers that I would just shoot other guns until supply got better. But I know not everyone is in that spot.

I wonder what % of people would just say fuk it and not do anything. In CA, I'd guess 1/3 of AR owners stopped even attempting to comply.

I can see the argument for x39, but why .40 over 9mm? Asking as someone who used to have a .40.

At it's best .40 might be considered equal to 9mm in performance, but less capacity, higher price, less availibilty. Last time things dried up .40 was nowhere to be found while some flavor of 9mm was almost always available (talking brick and mortar). Only people I know that carry .40 are uber-fudds, the guy that bought mine (he doesnt actualy carry), and those that bought a Glock 40 because they heard it in a rap song. Legit didn't know it was a hipster thing.

My buddy says shotgun since I don't have one already. I played guitar for a living at one point in my life so I really dig the long range hand eye coordination aspect. I don't mean to preach to a choir but so many options with this stuff.
If long range to you is under 400 yards any of them are fine. Further than that is where the 6.5 shines… and what it was designed for. But people do take the .308 out to a mile.

I wouldn’t use a 30-06. Ammo availability sucks right now, and there’s more recoil than the other two. From what im observing the 6.5 and .308 are about even as far as finding ammo goes.

.go with .308 ..cheaper to shoot and its used even today by most militaries. 5.56 is good and has range but hardly any stopping power out to 400

Question - anyone uses a shoulder holster? I'm thinking it could be nice during the cold season since we are always wearing jackets/layers.
I'm looking into the Aliengear Shapeshift Shoulder Holster but still looking for a cheaper alternative since its a bit expensive and I'm not even sure if I'm going to like it.
I had a bad experience with AG.

I bought that exact holster for my 1911. When I got it and put it on, it had a very loud and annoying squeak coming from where the holster was attached to the strap. The way they built it, you can't oil or fix it, and it didn't go away after two weeks. I emailed them to inquire about returning it, and I ended up eating shipping costs both ways to return it. I personally won't be doing business with them again.

If you buy from them, I hope your experience will be better, but if you're trying to buy a quality shoulder holster, invest in something better, or just stick to an iwb/owb. IMO

    Gotcha.

Thinking a little more about it, I might push a new shooter towards a bolt gun in 223 for starting out. The recoil is so light, they are easy to shoot well and precision ammo with 75+ grain bullets is much cheaper than precision ammo for most other cartridges. Downsides are they give up a bit in ballistics, and hits/misses are harder to see. A person that started with a bolt gun in 223 would want something else eventually if they got wanted to really get serious about long range shooting (ie competition), but the 223 would give them a fantastic base to work from.

Brahs, is $249 a good deal for an Aero .308 lower? Also how easy/hard is it to build a rifle ..just buy the lower and upper and connect it?

    https://leadandsteel.co/product/aero...le-bolt-group/

That’s a fair price for that complete lower. Lead & Steel is a solid vendor too.

I wouldn’t call that “building” a rifle but yes, assuming that you buy a complete lower and a complete upper, you just connect the two together with the supplied take-down pins.

When most people talk about building a rifle they’re usually talking about building it piece by piece. Some will build only the lower receiver, and then purchase a complete upper, as the lower is seen as easier to build from scratch.

Not all “complete” uppers come with a BCG and charging handle though, so sometimes those will need to be purchased separately.

Imagine a million or three people looking for 16" barrels

might be something to go ahead and get ahead of for anyone thinking of that possible route
Honestly, I don't have much confidence either.

That's because I don't have confidence that a FAIR trial will be conducted.

I ordered the 18" OD green. There is no shipping or tax. So $1007 for an Aero 18" DMR Sniper rifle. Its going to be epic. Called them and customer service was phenomenal. The guy was extremely helpful and told me that the lower and upper are both "complete" therefore no other parts needed for the gun to function. Also was willing to reach out to my FFL instead of me tryig to get them to contact the gun company (always a pain in the ass) Highly recommend this company. I will be ordering their optic as well once they get a green dot. Ill link it below

Boys, I have a buddy that wants to shoot a hog and wants to use an AR for it. We don’t have hogs here, so I’m not altogether sure what are must haves. Was thinking just a standard 16” a/ 1:7 and a lpvo of his choosing. Any reason to go 18” or stainless or whatever else? Any other tips specific to hog rifles?

Any good deals rn on suitable uppers?

If it has to be a 5.56 AR, I would use 16" minimum and a good hunting round. Ammo choice would be super important.
Many people like to use 7.62x39 because it's cheap and penetration is a bit better.

Hogs are tough and often can takes some rounds before they croak.

I don't mean to preach to a choir but so many options with this stuff.
If you’re not a boomer or a bird hunter then skip the shotgun. I don’t recommend a long range precision gun unless you reload. Get an MP5 clone. They’re cheap, fun to shoot, and nostalgic.

The terminal ballistics of .40 is still definitely better than 9mm. If you look at the LuckyGunner ammo tests, the expansion, penetration, and energy all go to .40 with most ammo options.

The real issues are with everything else. Wear on the gun, added recoil, reduced capacity, ammo cost, etc.

    Another solid day shooting yesterday.

We ran a similar course to the one two weeks ago, shooting at the same bay with all of the vehicles. Kept many of the same positions and added/adjusted some.

Couple pics of the course. The white post in the first pic is where we started from. Run 40m back to the pallet in the second pic and engage steel at 180m from there. Run 40m back to the white post and use the berm to the left of it to engage steel from 140m. Move laterally to the berm on the right side to engage steel from 140m. From there we worked our way up the course engaging a mixture of steel and cardboard. Incorporated four unknown reloads throughout. Ran it for time and accuracy (scoring on cardboard targets).

Short clip of me engaging from three positions after the 40m out and back run to the pallet (my buddy sucks at filming).
