1- Kurt Angle vs. Bryan Danielson

Both stayed in different wrestling federations while they were actively wrestling. Angle came back to WWE as a non-wrestler around the time when Bryan was at the peak of his main-event career, so either way never happened. But would have been a true technical classic if both were in WWE around 2008-2015.

2- Kurt Angle vs. Bret Hart

While Angle developed into a main-event star in WWE around 2001, Bret Hart was part of dying WCW... maybe if Bret had settled his differences with Vince around 2000 and made jump to WWE, we could have seen the two wrestle.

3- Shawn Michaels vs. Sting

Why not really? But again both were part of different federations.

4- Shawn Michaels vs. CM Punk

Only if HBK had stayed a little longer.

5- John Cena vs. Hulk Hogan

Only if Hogan had stayed a little longer.

Goldberg and Austin was the big one back in the Monday Night Wars. That would've been such a money matchup even if their styles clash.
Taker v Sting, again not about styles but about money and theatrics. Crow Sting of course.
Punk v Austin with Punk doing the holier-than-thou straight edge thing and Austin as the beer drinking SOB.

all three really would be more about the promos, the theatrics around the match, and the ending. Tell you what though, if they do it right, Rock vs Roman could be somewhere near the level of these. That's a story years in the making.

Both had that 'I am the only rockstar here' vibe in them. So yeah it's mostly that ego clash that didn't make this match happen. Same was the case with Hogan vs. Austin.

Maybe not pre-1998, but post-2002 (HBK returns), Rock vs HBK was definitely a Wrestlemania dream match.

Hbk, Billy Gunn, Xpac, and Road Dogg were jealous of The Rocks crowd reactions in 98-99 after he turned heel. Trips ultimately gained respect for him well before those other DX jabronis did. Said was because DX were competitive And saw him as a threat to their spots they were looking to secure in their futures as main eventers.
