Driving uphill in my diesel, manual ute.
Owned it for years. But never figured out a good way to change from second to third without losing a tonne of momentum.
I've read some manuals for classic cars that just flat out advise against changing to higher gears during a climb, but my ute is basically brand new.
Help?

Diesel Loses Too Much Momentum When Changing Gear

...and according to which an ensign might rank incomparably higher than a general, and according to which what was needed for success in the service was not effort or work, or courage, or perseverance, but only the knowledge of how to get on with those who can grant rewards, and he was himself often surprised at the rapidity of his success, and at the inability of others to understand these things

How many gears total? The 3rd gear ratio may just be too high and you need to hang 2nd longer. You can try shorter tires to increase the ratio or taller tires to decrease the ratio without messing with the drive gear.
If you just mean the act of shifting gears takes away momentum because you're in neutral during the change then just learn to shift gears faster. At some point you're just gonna have to deal with it though. Run the lower gear long and shift faster.|| MFC || C7 Crew || Trance & Techno Crew ||

On any decent diesel you should be able to use your low-mid range torque effectively, so I would just try to use a higher gear, maybe giving it some slip if starts to bog down on ya. I would do that even when just trying to cruise around in second gear or something, helps to prevent you from needing to change gear when some conditions make that annoying/difficult.
