How do others store their weights in their garage without them melting?

Ok, this is crazy. Never thought it would happen. We live in Tennessee. It gets hot. Well, yesterday I had my bar with just two 10s on it for one of the workouts. After the workout, I left the plates on the bar and went inside. This morning, I went out to the barn for my 5 am workout. (I do the 5 am workout to hopefully beat the heat and it isn't so miserable.) The weights on the bar were melted and folded over like a taco shell.

Right now, I have all of my bumper plates sitting on this...

    On amazon's website

Yaheetech Horizontal Barbell Bumper Plate Rack Holder Olympic Bar Storage Rack with Handle and Wheels,Black

(I tried to post the URL and the forum won't allow me.)

The sections aren't full, so they're tipped. They're going to slowly start to melt and curve to the side they're leaning towards.

When I had a crossfit gym membership, they had the rolling ones that you stacked vertically. That would work. But, I don't have enough plates to load up a whole one of those per weight pounds. On top of that, if I did that, I'd need like 5 of them and they're $122 a piece... I don't want to stack my 10, 15, 25, 35, 45 plates all on one of them. It'd be a pain to take all off just to get to one plate. Short of just leaving them on the floor now or dishing out $600 for just a vertical weight holders, what do other people do?

Doubt they'll melt. If it's a concern get metal plates and stall mats if you drop them

If you're saying they'll melt because they lean in the rack, why don't you just stuff some rags/old t-shirts in between the plates and each rack partition to keep them upright & shapely once you're done with your workout? Won't be stylish, but quick and easy.

You can also just plug in a cheap, reliable personal fan like the one below into your garage outlet to blow on the plates overnight.

The best quick option is to probably store them flat on the floor. You could just make your own rack out of 2x4s with one slot for each plate.

I made something like this, though it wasn't because they were melting.

Edit: well, I don't know why I can't upload images that meet the requirements anymore, but you should be able to see it here:

Not even sure why they make those 10's in bumpers. Totally not needed and they are just too thin.

My wife uses them to get the barbell to the correct height on some lifts where she can't lift more than that.

OP here is what I built , my own weight storage racks . Btw I did this years before anyone posted this idea on YouTube .
Get a 1” floor flange and the 1” gas pipe , that’s id I believe . I used 2/6 wood to bolt them to, but you could screw them to a wall stud with a lag screw if you wanted to .
I have to say this system works fantastic for my needs . Originally I had the numerically, with the 45 at the bottom, but found it was too awkward to put them back , so I raised the 45 up to where it’s far more comfortable to remove and place

I used 1/4 machine bolts for the heavier plates , but I have access to the back of the 2/6

I used industrial heat shrink to cover the gas line pipe , but use your imagination. Originally I was going to weld these steel half moon pieces to the ends that you can purchase, but my welding skills are not there yet .

They used to have a 2/4 on the top and bottom, but I’ve since refined the system with steel on the top and bottom with adjustable feet

For the comment why would anyone use 10s. For instance, if I wanted to use 25s and a 10 or something, I'd rather put on 3 10s on each side. I'll get going in the workout and then get tired and have to drop some weight. It's easier when I have a whole bunch of 10s on it to micro drop the weight.

Not that it is common for plates to melt, but I'm fairly certain I've seen at least one bumper plate manufacturer indicate that the warranty is voided on 10 lb plates if they are used solo on the bar. Or maybe they just recommended against it. Either way, I wouldn't leave a bar for any length of time with just a couple 10s on it. Doesn't apply to iron plates, obviously.

I'd rather drop the amount of reps than have to drop weight. Make note of it on your log for future sessions. If you've reached a point where you are so tired you can't complete even a handful of reps with the weight you just used last set, then you probably need to reprogram. Just my $0.02

A: I keep my weights and garage off of any planets closer to the sun than Earth.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?
