So I have been on my car crazy stuff for some time. I have really fallen in love with my lotus. I have already made significant mods and have even more planned for the winter. I have a spare motor and trans in the garage ready for the project.
But I just got done swapping a trans in my sons car and got to work back on the lotus. I put an 'auto blip' in the car. Basically it rev-matches and throttle blips on downshift. Yes, the best way is heel toe, which I can do on the street with no issue. On track however, the demands of braking are very different. When you brake on track, it is violent and you are extracting everything you can out of the car. I also have disabled my ABS so modulating the brakes takes a lot of concentration on track. Trying to do that and heel toe is a lot of work. So I figured I would try an auto blip.
So this is a little country run I made after getting it dialed in. Not balls out, but a fun run down though a bunch of 35mph turns (at slightly faster speeds) You can see how well the blip works. Just a joy to row through gears. I just love the analog nature of this car and it is the most pure driving experience I have ever had.

Country roads are nice for sure. Just a fun time to go out and carve some back roads. That said, I cant get on the car too hard. Speeds get up a little too high for areas where there are people entering various drives. That is what the track is for!
Funny you say that. I realized that for many years and 100,000's of miles, I had never learned to drive stick in a 'performance' way. Engine braking is important. The only time it will blip is if you are braking already, AND pushing in the clutch after. I used to have a bad habit at times of pushing in my clutch at the same time I would START breaking. On street, that is fine, but that is not how you want to drive on track.
You first slam on brakes and then start downshifts. Coming off a straight, you often do a 5>3>2 as you dont have the time to do 5>4>3>2.
You are still using engine braking for sure, just down shifting to be ready to exit corner...etc. Not sure if that makes sense or not, but 'blipping' does not impact engine braking. It does help sync rpm for smoother downshifts as you are braking down from higher speeds.RAW lifts

Just bought a 2019 Corvette Convertible. The wife wanted a convertible so now we go out just for drives on the weekend.
But I don't wail on it unless I'm by myself. She freaks out a bit on the 0-60 or 0-80 mph pulls.
I bet that Lotus is fun as hell to drive.Age: 42

Ha! Funny. It is an upgraded AIM dash with full telemetry, gps and data logging (for track use). Long story short, when on track, you can analyze all your sectors, speeds, g-forces...etc. It also allows me to monitor and log things the stock ecu does not. I am superchanged right now and I have a added wide band O2 sensor. VERY important to keep an eye on state of tune. Currently pushing the motor power levels to about 195 hp/Liter! Extrapolate that out would be equivalent to driving around a 1200hp vette. The level of mods needed additional monitoring that the stock gauges dont give.
When I say analog, I mean the actual driving. No power steering, no traction or stability control. Not even ABS anymore. Just you and the car. Really a lot of fun!
Love the C7. Even more now that the C8 came out
The lotus is a lot of fun. My favorite car I have ever owned. Here is a little snippet of me tracking down a GT2RS at VIR last fall. His is tuned and making about 800hp. You can see he leaves me on the straights but by the time we make it around the track I have reeled him in again.
Also at the end of this clip is a lapse in concentration I had where I got VERY lucky. I ended up going off track at almost 100mph BACKWARDS. I missed my apex on the uphill esses and dropped a tire the same amount on the other side of the track. I tried to ease it the best I could, but car snapped on me and LUCKILY went off on the inside. If I went the other way I would have destroyed the car in the tire wall. Just a good humble pill to swallow. Driving 30 min sessions take their toll on you and toward the end of the day fatigue was setting in. Just that small lapse in judgement. But a good lesson to learn. I damaged the removable underbelly aero in the 'off', but that was the extent of it. I took it off and finished out the day. Got lucky and was a good lesson to learn.
Then a fun vid from my buddies car showing the flames my car spits in broad daylight Rich tune to be on safe side. I run a 50/50 mix of 100 octane race gas and 93 on track also to be safe. Coming off 8200 RPM shifts, it spits flames out even in the day. At night, on downshifts, I see flashes of light coming out! Just a fun car!
911 is really about the ultimate drivers car. I am not a huge Porsche guy, but no denying how great the 911 is. In a few weeks I am headed to Florida for a brothers trip. He has a 911 Turbo S. We are going to do a 3 day rally. My brother is going though a divorce, so we made plans to blow off a little steam.Last edited by induced_drag; 08-03-2022 at 12:35 PM.

My car is a 6cyl. with just under 400 horses. The turbo is just a different car from the power an acceleration standpoint. When I was running my Challenger Hellcat, alot of people would challenge me, whether from the line or on the highway. Sometimes, rarely, I'd oblige them if it was an open road. The Hellcat power was crazy. Frankly, it was more than I used. Now, I get occasional challenges from people when I'm in my 911. I just have to laugh. It's not a power car, particularly from the line. It's a road racer. I'm still learning to actually accelerate in the turns.
You and your brother are in for a good time. And you will be just what he needs to clear his head. Cool that you two have that relationship. Cheers!Envy is ignorance. Imitation is suicide.

Lol I'm 43. Honestly I think black is the only color they look good on since the car is all murdered out with black. I do love the black wheels on the carbon flash package on the other colors.
I like the leather wrapped interior that comes with the 3LT too. It looks really good with red and tan interiors.
I think you've posted a pic of your car before. That's a sweet fing car. I wish the used car market wasn't so crazy I would have gotten a Z06. But we'll see in a few years.
Here's a pic of mine

Funny story on chrome wheels. When the C8 first came out, we saw one at an event. The owner, probably about 70. Yep even had the knee high socks and new balance on. 100% srs.
He asked if my son wanted to sit it in. He was a nice enough guy. I had to ask him one question. I said, "I thought the C8 didnt come with chrome wheels as an option".
He responded: "It didnt! That is the first thing I had to do when I got it was take the wheels off and have them chromed".
Pics of new C8 w/ chrome wheels for proof

Fun times. I still absolutely love driving some of the twisty, wooded roads here in northern New England. I don't have a fancy sports car to track but I did pick up a fun little MK8 GTI with a six speed manual to play with around here. I figured it may be one of the last opportunities to get a manual transmission in something that can serve as a daily driver with some playfulness thrown in.

Yes, I was initially thinking the same. I drive heel toe all the time on the street. I have found that on track I am dividing my attention too much. My lotus is running a fine line of being track car and street car. I have had to disable the factory ABS since I am so far outside the factory parameters that the system gets messed up sometimes and goes into 'ice mode' where you stomp on brakes and have nothing but a rock hard pedal (scarry) you have to lift and then re apply. A lot of guys that go full track just take out boosted brakes all together and run dual master cylinders w/ brake bias. If you want to keep abs, bosch makes a stand alone ABS system made for racing which runs about 10k.
Anyway, the distraction of trying to modulate non-abs brakes as max braking is a lot when you are leaning your heel over trying to blip at same time. Lots of modern performance cars use auto blip like ZL1 1LE. I actually think I am going to use it on track myself. I will still heel/toe street, but I dont see the blip as too much of an intrusion.
I am trying to decide how far I am going to take this car. A little bad part of my brain wants to put a sequential in it, but that pretty much makes it only a track car. Hell that gets rid of clutch (except for starting off) AND blipping. And no one would ever argue that running a sequential is not a 'race' experience. Just all tools in the shed for getting the job done.
But I get your point. Kind of the purist view. I appreciate it, but dont feel it is too intrusive.
GTI's have quite the following. Many would put it right up there as an enthusiast car. I think they are cool as hell, and know a guy who has one all modded out. That is what is great about cars. You dont have to spend 100's of thousands. There are so many ways which you can have fun with this. I like all cars (except maybe the C8 and a few others ), but I love seeing and learning about all the fun that can be had.
Really developing an appreciation for the S2K which we just got for my son. We just got done with a trans swap in his car and this was the first time he got to drive it! He just got his permit. Getting my hands into the S2K gives me lots to learn and love about it. It is another timeless car.

I'm sure you've heard the old adage that the guy that designed the Corvette said "all Corvettes are red, the rest are mistakes"?
I gotta agree with Flex here that the chrome rims detract from the look, they're fine on Grandpa's Buick, not a beautiful sportscar like that. I think black rims with some flashy colorful brake calipers would be a great look for this ride.
I'm currently driving a 2005 Honda Accord that I'm fixing up for my Daughter, so my opinion may not be worth much. Maybe someone could chop the image with black rims and fire engine red calipers?
I think that would kick ass.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

When I was growing up, chrome wheels were expensive, and a status symbol. Everybody ran Cragar 5 spokes on their muscle cars, with as much rear rubber as you could get away with, and skinny drag tires in the front. The only people who ran natural mags were people who couldn't afford Cragar 61s, or some hardcore racers who were trying to run as light as possible.
There was nothing that compared to the flash of spinning chrome under the lights, and the smell of leaded premium burning, and the sound of the lope of an aggressive v-8 cam. Todays kids will never understand that with their fart can mufflers and plastic import cars. People are so used to painted and anodized ultralight wheels today that they can't comprehend the beauty of shiny chrome. Not to mention that government has regulated chromium plating to such an extent that it's once again expensive as hell and hard to get.
(And those plated rims are the best thing available for that sweet 'Vette. Black and chrome is the sexiest combination available.)

That is AWESOME! FRS/86/BRZ is an awesome platform. I know a lot of guys who really enjoy driving them. Love the elevation change of that track! What track is that? VIR has some cool elevation changes in an area called 'roller coaster'. For now I am limited where I can go because 'technically' my son is not old enough to drive events. So I we only do events where my friend privately rents out the track for us. I'd like to start venturing to other tracks. The fact that we get to do VIR is pretty awesome as it is one of the premier road courses on the east coast. We have a 2-day event this fall. Not sure if we can make both days. I have to take him out of school for the track days.
Just feel lucky to get to do this stuff. I have really been enjoying the car thing past few years and getting to do it with my son is a huge thing for me.
I eventually would like to pick up another lotus that can become a track car for my son in the future. They have just gotten so expensive but in my opinion they are almost the perfect track car. Very good car to run on consumables. Just the entry would be about 1/4 1/5 the cost in a nice modded miataRAW lifts

That is the bottom of the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca, my favorite track. Yes, for tracking these cars are amazing. The consumables are cheap and It doesn't take a ton of money to properly mod to be competitive on track with faster, more expensive cars. Would love a Lotus but this fits the budget but this isn't far off

LOVE to see more stuff. Out on west coast has some awesome tracks. Only get to see them on the SIM
Any in-car footage. Do you use a cataylast, or go-pro for any in-car. I resisted at first, but gave in and bought a catalyst. I was using harrys lap timer, which works great, but the fact that it runs on my phone was the down side. I just wanted a stand alone unit. Not cheap but I justified it that it was just 'easy'.
Feel free to clog up the thread with all the driving vids you want! Would love to see them!!!! Also be interested 10)% understand about consumables. That is why I love the lotus. At 1900lbs, it does not go though stuff. It is very easy on tires and brakes. My buddies that run 3RS get 3-4 days out of a set of tires. My buddy that tracks his GT500 goes though a set of tires in one day at VIR. That would take a lot of enjoyment out of it for me. Whether I had the money or not!
Post some good pics! Would love some in-car of places I can only dream of going nowRAW lifts
