Review article discussing implications of small dense LDL

I know some find this topic interesting: https://www.mdpi.com/2227-9059/10/4/829

I'm not well-read on this topic as I'm in Pediatrics where this is less relevant. This review certainly makes a case for considering LDL particle size when determining cardiovascular risk. It'll be interesting to see if general guidelines change when they are next updated.

Didn’t read but when you health nuts get your cholesterol checked do they even tell you the size of your LDLs?

Nope. That's where I wonder if we are missing out on potentially useful information. Currently guidelines do not incorporate the particle sizes so it's hard to justify testing for them. The general advice (ie, eat healthier, exercise more, lose excess fat) likely won't change either. I don't know if there would be differences from a medication management perspective, I think that's where practical utility may be present.

My dad is a doctor, a surgeon. If you go to him with any problem he will tell you that you are going to die.
My mom is a doctor too, family practice. She will say that you will be fine.
    They are both correct.

I've got this great big 3 story rental house that is furnished. I decorated it.
I showed it to my nephew and neice.
Nephew said it was pretty cool.
Neice said it's full of tits and asses.
    They are both correct.

I've never had a full particle analysis done, but I have had my Apo-A/B, VLDL, and lp(a) checked.

Would be curious at some point to have a complete panel done to assess tho... I think I can get them from the ordering service I've used before.

Are they any guidelines regarding particle concentrations?

LDL is generally measured as a concentration (ie, ng/mL), and here is one guideline: https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1...00000000000625 You can look at figure 2 for a quick summary.

You'll see ASCVD referenced, here is a calculator for that (which also incorporates cholesterol values): https://tools.acc.org/ascvd-risk-est...late/estimate/

I mean the HDL deff is no idea why it’s so low other than I had fasted 24 hr before the blood draw. The LDL is only just out of range of 199. I agree not great either.

I don’t think most places even have the machinery to test the sizes. And if they did your insurance probably wouldn’t cover it. Probably label it like “expiremental” or something

Uhhh…. Dude… LDL target is under 100, not under 200… you’re confusing LDL with Total… your LDL is over double the top limit of normal
