Urethane grip plates vs cast iron plates [same price; outdoor use]

    Hello everyone,

I hope I'm doing this correctly posting a new thread.

I need to make a choice between urethane grip plates and cast iron plates. These offers are the ones I'm referring to:

    www megafitness.shop/hantelscheibe-50mm-3grip-pu-5kg-bis-25kg.html

    www megafitness.shop/hantelscheiben-guss-50-mm-osb.html

Unfortunately I can't post links here yet so I just pasted them without the first dot. Just copy and paste the links (replace the space between www and megafitness with a dot) in your browser.
The urethane option costs ~3,4€ and the cast iron option costs 2,95€ when buying in sets of 100 kg (plates can be chosen freely - just have to add up to 100 kg).

What would be the best bang for the buck here?
    How durable is urethane?
How would urethane hold up when exposed to the elements?

    I appreciate any input/advice/answers.
    Thanks.

I would check with the manufacturer get their thoughts on your intended use. I don't think urethane coated plates are intended for extended outdoor use.

Urethane will be better than cast iron but I would shop for bumper plates.

This might be the way to go. I would find some like these that are intended for outdoor use:

Not sure your budget but you might look at a Garage Gym Reviews video about outdoor gyms that is pretty recent on YouTube.

Urethane will hold up better outdoors than bare metal provided the plates are not left in the sun. However, I would probably just get whatever was cheapest if leaving the stuff outdoors.

This is key. You can probably use any plates outdoors if you store them out of the elements when not in use. Otherwise, go with whatever is cheapest and plan for them to deteriorate (rubber/urethane) or rust (iron). Make sure you have a good surface to lift on or they will deteriorate faster.

Cheapest plates possible if you are leaving them out 24/7, get an iron set of CAP plates and be done with it. Wouldn't buy urethane or bumpers unless you brought them in daily, in the long term Iron is going to last longer IMO. Extreme cold/hot will either crack or melt the other options and they are more expensive to replace.
