Naughty dog needs to wake up. The last of us is the only reason to get a PlayStation but the waiting they expect you to do for this series is stupid. 7 years in between part 1 and part 2. Now almost 2 years since Part 2 released and absolutely zero information shared about the standalone multiplayer game. The earliest we can expect the multiplayer to release at this point is next year. Last of us Part 3 will most likely be released between 2028-2030 at this point which means 15+ years between part 1 and part 3. I just hate how secretive and quiet Sony is these days in regards to their PS5 games. They need to start announcing more.

..... AAA game development is often 4-6 years at this point. Exceptions being your Assassins Creeds, Far Cry's, CODs, etc. Which suffer from both franchise fatigue (not in sales, but in lots of gamers minds and reviews) and are just usually not that great.
And there were only 3 years between TLOU and Uncharted 4. Then 4 years between Uncharted 4 and TLOU2. You really want them to shorten their dev times to like a 2 year cycle? nothanksjeffery-Engineering Crew

With an increase in technology and console power, the longer it will take to develop games. Long gone are the days of copy and pasting the same engine over and over with minor upgrades. By the time Naughty Dog releases Factions Part 2, they'll need to be rebuilding the engine for PS6.

4 years for a new AAA game is not that long in "current year". This is not 1999 where Majoras Mask can be put out less than 2 years after Ocarina of Time launched.
hell, even devs who used to release games every 2-3 years last gen are now taking more time.
-Gears 4 to 5 was only Three years of dev time. Whatever the Coalition does next will be Four or even Five years of dev time.
-Turn10 released a Forza Motorsport every Two years like clockwork. The new one is getting 5.5 Years of dev time...... almost tripleLast edited by ScramFranklin; 08-15-2022 at 10:09 AM.

This "it's taking too long" thing is so dumb. Same people saying things like that will complain games like BF 2042 and HAlo release in such a chitty state. You can't have it both ways.
TLoU Factions was an absolutel masterpiece, and to me still the best squad based shooter ever made. If they want to take 10 years to make the sequel perfect and true to what their vision is, fine with me. Rather have the best game whenever it's done then a chitty version quicker. Personally I am not planning to diue anytime soon, so what's the rush?

Last of us part 3 is probably 2028 or later at this point unless it is the next unannounced single player game from Naughty dog. If it is 2028 for example that will be 15 years to have a trilogy of last of us games(2013-2028) and if we're honest 2028 is most likely too soon when talking about Naughty dog. Games are getting too big and taking too long to create now. Had the entire mass effect trilogy in one generation and it was amazing. Now we'd get one mass effect game an entire generation. GTA 6 gonna release in a few years and GTA 7 will probably be 2050 or later now

What's so complex about GTA6 that it's taking 10x the development time as Vice City?
Actual specific things.
Be real, it has nothing to do with actual limitations and everything to do with moneymaxxing. The way they used to make money was through new games and new games only. There wasn't easy money through microtransactions or remasters. Its funny how game "complexity" suddenly skyrocketed when microtransactions took off.

We were talking about TLOU2, why are you talking about GTA suddenly? LoL
I mean if that is your opinion fine, but realize that it's one of a minority. Both TLOUs absolutely destroyed ratings/reviews and awards. Uncharted, especially recent ones are almost as loved and dominant. They don't make anything else so I dunno what you mean by "everything else".

think about how much more geometry is in a single character. Now think about how much geometry is in a single scene. And lighting, textures, animations, more characters with lines and writing, etc.
The world in RDR2 was nuts, it's insane what they created on last gen systems. Games are getting bigger scopes every gen. In GENERAL
if studios could pump out titles with the same scale and fidelity and quality every two years, they would. Because it'd save dev costs, and more products means more sales potential.-Engineering Crew

Think about the scale of games 20 years ago and the technology available at the time as well as 3D games being relatively new and they still were pumping out yearly titles.
They just don't have the incentive to do it now since they can make more money rereleasing old games or selling overpriced ingame crap.
If microtransactions and remasters didn't exist, you really think we'd have 5-10 year waits for sequels?

yes because games years ago were much smaller in scope and assets.
Again, devs wouldnt take 4-5 years to release games if they could release games of the same caliber in just 2 years.
And to your remaster argument.... it made perfect sense for sony to remaster UC4 and remake TLOU.... being that they were also finally releasing them on PC.
And Naughty dog was focused on UC4 until it released, they were doing some preproduction on TLOU2 then, but not the full force of their development team.
What did Sucker Punch do between Second Son and Sushi? Not making tons off microtransactions, not releasing remasters. They were developing Sushi-Engineering Crew
