    It depends on whether I want to lose, gain or maintain.

    Currently trying to maintain at about 2900 but probably that's still a small surplus (195 lbs, 5'11'')

    They are close to 300 pounds of pure muscle

    But 6-10K sounds like an exaggeration.

    I average soemwhere around 3k a day. But it fluctuates quite a bit on the day. But probably mainly between 2800-3200ish.
    A dock in harbor is safe, and thats what docks are built for.

    around 1800 since i'm nearly at the end of my cut and a small-ish guy in general. when i was at the peak of my bulk (35 pounds heavier), i was eating 3500+ calories per day and barely gained weight. some days eating felt like a chore - and i'm someone who loves food...

    I actually don't track but Ik where I'm at within 1-200 cals from years of extremely obsessive tracking. It definitely varies by the day, but generally, I'm in between 3.5k on the low end & 4k on the high end. I'm surprised how low some of the numbers are ITT.

    My maintenance is usually around 2800 calories. I started bulking in February at around 3050 calories, which seems to have slowly become my new maintenance, so I now need around 3300 to gain slowly.

    I tend to start cutting at around 2300 and eventually go down to 2000.

    i assume OP's initial question was out of curiosity, but now i'm not sure if he really thinks he can pick an arbitrary calorie number that makes him lose fat and gain muscle at the same time...

    I had the most success with 2700-3000 for sustained weight loss last year. I typically aim for that as it's not especially difficult over long periods of time and yields consistent results.

    If I'm not deliberately losing weight, I don't even track it carefully enough to say, but its got to be close to 4000 based upon how my weight increases. My maintenance is about 3500 without added activity.

    Yeah I mean given his size, he'd be better off just losing fat in a deficit... recomping when you're obese is just dumb.
