Fourteen students and a teacher were killed during a shooting at a Texas elementary school Tuesday afternoon, according to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
Speaking in Abilene, Abbott said the shooter, an 18-year-old from Uvalde, is dead.

Its not because of the guns, it's because of mental illness combined with social media that drives these @ssholes to acts like this. Add in the fact that schools are gun free zones which makes them a soft target. There are plenty of ex military as well as retired cops who could be utilized to protect schools. Setup a single point of entrance and have an armed Vet standing there, I guarantee this $hit stops.

i had no idea who this guy was but his speech is 5 minutes of heartfelt discussion.
1. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...andy-Hook.html
and of course the shooter has that dead in the eyes look that we are all used to seeing.

Social media became widely used around 2007. Columbine happened in 1999. Crazy is always going to be there. The ONLY was to stop this insanity is to make gun ownership not a right, but a privilege. Take Israel as an example. IMHO - unless a person has military training, with an extensive background search which includes mental evaluation, you don’t get a gun. But this will never happen here.

This would work because these guys are cowards, but at what expense? I can't imagine a world where I have to bring my Kindergartner in past an armed soldier to learn her ABC's.
I think if it was more clandestine it would be more appropriate. Let Teachers CC. Have that retired military guy buzz everyone in, but be out of site. Make it widely known to adults that there is an armed presence waiting for anyone who shows up in body armor and he/she has armor piercing rounds.
No more soft targets, but for Heaven's sake don't terrify little kids with armed militia at the door.Last edited by Bando; 05-24-2022 at 07:52 PM.

We've already got the guns here. Making them illegal will do absolutely nothing. The areas in the US with the strictest gun control laws are also some of the areas with the highest rates of gun crime. Those intent on committing crime certainly aren't going to respect gun control laws, so while exploiting emotions during times of tragedy to pass ineffective gun laws provides token gestures that score political points and makes us feel like wonderful people, they will do absolutely nothing to solve the problem.

Have you ever lived outside US? Everything you listed exists in the rest of the world Ans yet, US where the citizens are armed more than any other citizen in any other country, has non stop mass shootings over and over and over again. Anyway, no words, I would off myself if I lost my child like that.

lol, historically citizens giving their guns to the government has never ended well. Those Aussies learned that also with their extreme lockdowns. Gun laws don’t work. Our states with the toughest laws have the most shootings, states with guns and can Constitutional carry have the least. Maybe we go back to the Wild West with everyone strapped. You go in a gun store and the employees all carry in the open. Doubtful any robberies take place there.

It would be physically impossible to do that here and neither would we allow it given that pesky little thing we like to call the second amendment -- but by all means, please enlighten us as to what gun control laws could we implement that would prevent the current tragedy?

walls of wisdom. Gun grab people are delusional about the realities of only the government having guns. The second amendment was not about guns for deer hunting purposes. You don’t want a gun or guns then don’t get em.
When someone breaks into your house and threatens your family I’m sure you can explain that you don’t like guns and ask them politely to leave.
I was robbed at gunpoint in my bed years ago. After that I deemed it necessary to be heavily armed. If you don't get what you want you didn't want it bad enough

No we did not. The laws were changed and there was a federal buyback for voluntarily suurrendering unregistered weapons. There has been several amnesties since for surrendering. This has not stopped gun crime but has reduced it and also gun suicides.
There are more registered guns now than there was then and estimated to be approxomatelt 260,000 unregistered and therefore illegal weapons nationwide
I woke to this terrible news this morning and since then the deaths reported has risen. I feel for the families of those poor kids. It must have been a terrifying situation for the other children.

Bull****. I came to the US in the 90’s as a teenager and I vividly remember Dave Koresh fiasco. I remember asking my mom how something like this possible in the US? I even wrote a paper about it first year of college, because I was so moved by it. No anymore. Anyway, I remember that paper though. Government came in and burned the whole compound with kids and women and no f@cks were given. And I learned a lesson - if government wants you, they coming and you gonna die with yo guns on site.
