This report from the health officials is worth the read.

Also, I saw Jen Psaki today on Michigan avenue in Chicago. She was by herself coffee in hand in a business suit across the street coming toward me. I couldn’t remember where I recognized her from at first but she looked familiar. As Soon I was passed by a few steps I turned and said Jen like you would if you knew someone. She spun around and cheerfully said “yeah” and I chuckled and walked away. I should have at least grabbed a picture but the thought never even crossed my mind. Better looking IRL honestly, but not compared to the overall trip. The current style of shorts pulled up to just below the boobs, with boobs and butt cheeks hanging out is something else. Can’t say I’ve ever seen more damn near naked women in my life on my 20 minute walk to a law office.

Hey Tim, what do you know about the shingles vaccine?

Is it effective for older folks to avoid getting shingles?

I'm 54, and probably in the age range to consider getting the vaccine.

Personal choice obviously but yes probably a good idea. From people I’ve known that have had shingles it is unpleasant, much worse and more painful than chickenpox despite being caused by the same virus.

As far as I know it is effective, even back when the definition of a vaccine meant it prevented a disease.

A smattering of monkeypox cases in Britain has prompted authorities to offer a smallpox vaccine to some healthcare workers and others who may have been exposed, as a handful more cases were confirmed in parts of Europe.

Monkeypox is a usually mild viral illness, characterised by symptoms of fever as well as a distinctive bumpy rash.

There are two main strains: the Congo strain, which is more severe – with up to 10% mortality – and the West African strain, which has a fatality rate of about 1%.

I have a bad feeling this is going to give another blow to the stock markets if it gets out of control in the USA

Germany, France and Belgium confirmed their first cases of monkeypox Friday, joining a growing list of countries where cases of the rare viral illness have popped up outside of the disease’s typical territory in recent days.

Shingles caused me to break out in huge blisters that ran from the center of my chest around to the center of my back (it just followed the path of the spinal nerve that was infected). It didn't itch, but felt like somebody took a blow torch to that whole area. Any time my shirt rubbed against it, I would get intense sharp pains where it made contact. That phase lasted a couple of weeks. After the blisters healed, I had numbness in that area for about 6 months (neuralgia). So yeah, it sucked -- getting the vaccine is not a bad idea.

Wow, Karl, I don't remember you getting Shingles. I thought you would be too young to be that susceptible. I heard it is miserable.

Yeah, that is what I thought too and why I started the meds too late. It started out as a small rash, and all of my googling kept pointing to shingles, but I dismissed it because I figured I was way too young for that. It was only after it had grown significantly that I finally accepted the possibility that it could be shingles and went to the doctor. By that time, the antivirals were pretty ineffective because they really only work if you start them early. Later I found out that my brother had shingles in his 30's, so maybe we are just genetically susceptible.

Poo tin, not democrats is responsible for our current inflation. We need to get more boosters and bring the masks back! I don’t think 40 billion is enough for Ukrainian relief. We need to pass build back better! White nationalists and ultra magas are the biggest threat to our democracy. Abortions should be legal for at least 12 weeks after birth! Men can get pregnant! Gas isn’t going up due to Biden, it’s big oil refusing to drill!

    Better?

That’s awful, a guy I work with had them on his legs and ass, couldn’t sit down for over a month. Said he could barely sleep the entire time due to pain/annoyance.

Don't worry they'll want more in a few months and then more, and then more. There is no real accountability to what the money is actually being used for however I think we have a pretty good idea that a good amount isn't going to where it should be going.

Everything's a wedge issue, everything's fuel for the culture war. Don't wear a mask, don't get the vaccine—do that and the caravan of critical race socialists will transgender your kids.

Plenty of it will be wasted / funneled to connected entities. All that military equipment we left in Afghanistan could have been put to better use than dropping into the hands of our enemy in the conflict.

So sure it's a handout to the Empire's war machine but it’s cheaper to arm Ukraine than fight Russia in Poland. We’ve been doing this proxy war thing pretty steady since well, forever.

Perhaps but Americans get to avoid fighting WW3 and save the trillions that it would cost if we allowed Russia to grow to a point to dominate Europe for the next ten years.

Think of how much easier and cheaper WW2 would have been if Germany was defeated in 1940.

Very interesting. But, yes, sounds like it could be genetic. When I read your previous post, your age really confused me. But, what you said makes sense.

I hope you are immune now.
