Amen brotha turn that low energy day into a high energy day!!
How’d your shoulder workout go?
I managed to accomplish this today:
Took 6 frickin months of exercising since the hospital to get back to being able to do a 100 lb DB snatch. In my prime I think I used to be able to do like 20 in a row!
This is the first time attempting this movement in 10 years but I built a strength base to allow me to get this on my first try back doing it again.
Next step is get back to being able to do 20 in a row!!

Been rolling around all day trying to cure this hangover. Ate a steak and some greens and don't feel any better. Worst part about a hangover is you need some dirty meal to cure this bitch. Drinking my second monster and gonna grab some chipotle. Hopefully I feel better so I can get some work done... 7pm rn fml

Welcome to the thread brah. Please don’t take this in a condescending or offensive way; would you consider this a serious consideration to quit drinking alcohol or just a hungover inspired thought?
Are you looking to be sober for the rest of your life? I believe it really helps to do a cost benefit analysis. To look at the pros and cons of drinking as well as the pros and cons of sobriety. Identify your goals, values and beliefs; does alcohol help get you closer to those or does it take you further away?
For example, honesty and integrity are two values that I want in my life. Drinking alcohol and using substances were not congruent with those values and therefore my reasons for living a life of recovery are strengthened.Miscer in recovery: clean date 03/30/22

Alright boyos, I need to commit to continuous sobriety. I had like a month going into April and proceeded to fall of the rails completely.
I feel like delusion is a big factor in addiction: you think you're ok and the actions you're taking are reasonable. You may think it is destructive at the cognitive level, but something subconsciously, deeper is telling you "this is ok, this is safe". Just rambling, but am going to make an effort to check in on this thread and subreddits that promote sobriety and clean living.

Not rambling at all bro, you’re right.
I went to a 12-step rehab once and they were big on AA and all that. I didn’t find everything useful, but one thing that stuck with me is that when you look at it objectively, for people with alcohol use disorder (alcoholics, addicts, whatever), alcohol is a substance that wants to kill you.
It DOES lie to you, it hijacks your brain and your dopamine pathways to convince you it’s OK, even when you know it’s not. It convinced you all the way to the grave.
Deep down, you KNOW when it’s a problem and when it’s something you should avoid, it’s pretty easy to identify stuff we do that’s bad for us.
Another good rule of thumb is, if you were someone like a friend or family member that you loved and cared for, would you do to them what you are doing to yourself?. In other words, if you were taking care of YOU, would you have them drink as much as you are drinking now?

You are always welcome in this thread whether that's to post or just lurk! The hope is that this thread can be a supportive collective of people in recovery to show love to ourselves and others. Delusion and especially dishonesty was one of the biggest problems of addiction for me. I would often tell myself that I was a functioning alcoholic/addict because I could go to school, work, and take care of any other obligations. But this life is usually not sustainable and it is especially not a proper scenario to cultivate happiness and fulfillment in one's life. I would say my best advice to those starting recovery is to not do it alone. That doesn't have to necessarily mean treatment like inpatient/outpatient or even groups like AA/NA. Having supportive friends and family members makes recovery a lot more doable especially when you can incorporate additional help through treatment and/or support groups. I think it's awesome that there are many alternatives to supportive groups that aren't based in 12 steps like SMART Recovery or Recovery Dharama. All I know is that when I tried to live a life of recovery alone, it was so difficult and I failed fairly quickly each time.

Nice although **** that. My hand/arm would rip off lol. My strength to weight ratio is pretty low, which I'm okay with. I value hypertrophy over strength although both are important to gains.
Edit: I've been eating a dick ton of protein granola cereal, pretty good stuff lol. Oh, and greek yogurt too!

Yeah I almost regretted it but luckily didn’t injure myself at all. Right thumb felt weird for a few minutes
Bro the granola and yogurt combo is an underrated one. Between the protein in both of them, plus the fiber and healthy carbs, it may be the one of the best GOAT of all time healthy snacks/desserts.
Ever add berries? Raspberries or something?

Welcome broski! What are your goals and intentions with not drinking? Long term sobriety? For what reasons?
Early recovery can be boring, but it doesn't have to be. I am a big proponent of changing much more than just not drinking and/or using. Finding new sober activities and hobbies, especially with other people who are supportive of your recovery, is incredibly helpful!Miscer in recovery: clean date 03/30/22

Have you ever done any sort of treatment like inpatient or outpatient? I wouldn't say it is a must for successful recovery, but can be helpful. Starting to workout again will be a good hobby and hopefully you can find more hobbies/interests to undertake. And I think that is a great idea to keep going to meetings!

Bro I didn’t workout for years because of alcohol and that was something I loved more than anything. Hard to exercise when you feel like trash and hungover. Also zero motivation.
Ever since I almost died and stopped drinking I started exercising again but it took me about 2 months before I felt good enough to start doing some push-ups and stuff again.
But damn it feels great and it really spruces up your life big time. Plus it’s a huge dopamine replacement for the alcohol. Having a good workout or hitting a PR is more exciting than going to the bar or opening up a bottle of wine or whatever.
Anyway that’s been my experience so far.
What kind of exercise would you normally enjoy the most, if you were to get back into it? How long has it been since you last exercised?

Never done inpatient or outpatient. Was considering it but I work full time and idk how it would work. Just doing it myself for now along with AA
Been years since I last exercised regularly. Used to do pretty basic routines consisting of compound exercises and some isolation exercises. Where I live now theres a lot to do outside so might get into hiking or kayaking or somethin.Angels
