I don't have the luxury as most of you folks outside of NY to have so much space to build a full gym in the basement.
I also know myself and know that I wont stop going to the gym even if I did have a full gym in my basement I enjoy going to the gym, its my way of "getting away" from the every day life. It is my mental place, the place I relieve stress, anxiety, depression, anger etc and it is very therapeutic for me, more than just muscle and strength.
Anyway I am remodeling my basement and taking a section of it and turning into a very small gym space, I will use this thread to update and take final pictures when it is completed.
I have the contractors laying down tiles, but they are cutting out 6' X 8' area where I will have my rubber mats and in that area I will have, to start a squat rack, a bench, a set of smart dumbbells (from 5 to 80lbs) an Olympic 45lbs bar and four 45lbs plates. As time goes on I will add plates.
The orders I placed
Yesterday some stuff started coming in (excited!)
The bar and plates that was given to me
I am also setting up my gym so that if in the future the gyms closed for whatever reason I still have a place to get a decent workout in.

So awesome. I think you will love having a home gym.
We do. I don't think I will ever go back to a commercial gym. So many pros and no cons, IMHO.
Hard to see what you bought but I think you said you were getting the Monster 70" squat stand, which is what I have. I love it. Very solid.
I also have the Monster Lite version for Lisa.
We have everything in a 10' by 14' room in our basement. 2 racks, 3 benches (2 flat, 1 adjustable), a weight tree, a cable machine, over 1,100 lbs of plates and a set of adjustable dumbbells with 295 lbs of plates.
It's tight, but it works.Insta: flexjs

Looks great John! I was able to snag some equipment for my basement just before Covid shut down our NJ gyms. BUT like you I am old school; I love being in a public gym. Since the gyms have re-opened I have used my basement stuff about 3 times. Still feels good knowing I have it in the basement though. Enjoy!

Haven't lifted in a commercial gym since 2003 crew. Likely never will again. Like Flex said, you can fit a ton of equipment into a small area if you are creative enough. Especially if you lift alone. Mine can get tight if I am lifting w/someone, but oh well.
Great equipment, BH. You buy the good stuff.

Yup I saw your rack and it is the same one I purchase, I had to get that one due to the low ceiling.
My gym will be half a gym half a man cave, but I think it will work
I will mostly likely used it in the winter and snow days etc, but who knows we will see. Just nice to know I have it if needed.
I am the opposite I used to have a home gym years ago, but once I went to a gym I never looked back, after Covid I had to rethink my strategy. Thanks the only problem is the smart dumbbells' only go to 80lbs, but they save up so much space. On the list for Bannukah

Look forward to pics once it is set up.
I still need to paint the walls and put up some shelves and and accessory racks, but hey, it's only been 18 months or so...gimme some time. LOL.
We have a low ceiling too which comes with some challenges but we worked around that well enough I think.Insta: flexjs

Congrats BH.
I made the move in '19 to a home gym. Just a simple set up with rack, barbells, & DB set up.
I do miss the commercial gym atmosphere and the availability of different machines. In fact, think I'll re-join here soon to get a change of pace.
Those DB's look really interesting. Report back how you like them. I went with the Powerblocks and like them a lot. Mine only go to 90lbs, but that's plenty for me.
You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Looking forward to seeing your setup once it’s setup . You remind me of my beginnings , as I started out fairly small in one corner of my basement where I threw down a piece of carpet from Walmart .
Next thing you know I caught the bug and kept upgrading and adding gear. It’s exciting just getting a new bar delivered to add the gym .Make Misc great again

I would have retracted that comment if you had just put in the beer fridge I suggested.
Had a request to give a neighborhood kid some pointers on lifting, he is like 12, single Mom situation and apparently being bullied and wants to lift to get some confidence.
I had him come over to my basement gym after school today and had him do some bench and OHP with the bar just to see if he could handle that, he was wobbly but we have a basis. He can do the bar.
I have mixed feelings about the whole thing but keeping my fingers crossed that he sticks with it better than my own son did.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

Heard a lot if good things about them, that's why I purchased them. I also love that they look like regular dumbbells
Thanks, nice set up, why no mirrors though? I will definitely report back on the dumbbells
Also no mirrors? Don't you guys think mirrors complete the gym?
I bought the stand as well.

I am having them install by a mirror company that does them for gyms. I just want to make sure it doesn't fall as I have my grandchildren and the last thing I need is a giant mirror come crashing down.
I am also installing a bose smart soundbar for my music, now I can play all the hip hop/rap I want and as loud as I want, gym music sucks ass!!On the list for Bannukah

mirrors are on the wall you can't see in that pic across from the rack. I got them at Lowes and think there are 2 3x4 (if memory serves) mirrors.
Forgive the fatty in the pic.
Edit to add: During covid, had 2 of the neighbor kids and 3-4 of my daughters teammates coming over to lift. It was really nice to have an outlet for them. You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Lucky enough to have a "bonus" room above the garage to use. It was once my kids play room that had carpet in it. They thrashed the carpet, so we put down new flooring and I stole the room for my gym. It get hot here in the summer, so a garage set up was out of the question.
You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.
