These are the internal expectations of Russian economists. Cliffs: there will be a major decline as they transition from an import economy to domestic production but it will be short term, one to two years, before returning to normal

Real wage growth was negative before any of this started. Causing further shortages isnt going to help with our serious supply chain and inflation issues. All this sacrifice for what? I mean sure, you give zero fuks about the Americans you're harming, but what do we even have to show for it.

People are saying the ruble is collapsing, they are going to starve because of inflation, Russians are going to revolt because the economy is bad.
It's like they don't realize gas is $7 a gallon, inflation is 7.9% and not transitory, the dollar is collapsing. If Americans aren't revolting Russians won't eitherKnow Justice

Russia should get through this but it's not going to be pretty for them. The only way this is done and dusted in a year or two like Comrade Pollyanna imagines is if they manage to resolve the Ukrainian war in a manner that the West deems satisfactory.

I love when people who don't live in Russia tell me that the sanctions have no effect on the Russian economy lmfaooooooo.
MOEX has been closed for almost a month-- literally the moment they open it, it's going to drop by 30% at least. Russian public companies traded abroad like on NYSE are penny stocks now (Sberbank- SBRCY, went from $17.50 to $0.50 in two days). The rouble has lost 50% of its value. The entire country lost 50% (or more) of its net worth overnight. Banks have banned you from withdrawing more than 10,000 Roubles ($100) in cash in a day until further notice. All foreign-held assets in Russian banks are frozen (i.e. if you own stock in Apple or something not traded on MOEX), with the banks promising "fair compensation" but no mention of what that is actually going to be. Shelves at my local grocery store are empty in huge places, and prices have already started to go up on basic items like butter and bread. At least three companies of which I'm aware (and know people working at) closed their Russian offices overnight and left the country. Anyone trying to leave the country is being denied visas or job offers that they were promised like two weeks before the war started. Apple pay (which is used by probably 50% of the country) completely shut down, we're back to using the chips on our cards or swiping like 2010s plebs. Pubs that import foreign beer are nearly unable to get any new stock. People are panic buying foreign goods. Any subscription to a foreign service like Netflix of Amazon Prime has stopped working. It's impossible to send money abroad or bring it in from abroad. My own company has headquarters on Malta and realized that they only have enough money to keep the company running until January unless they lift the SWIFT sanctions, otherwise they have to close it down just because. That is a common phucking story because most "Russian" companies are actually based in Malta or Switzerland or Deleware and just have offices in Russia.
Yeah brah, when you have a controlled Central Bank that does whatever the government says, they don't spazz out like western banks. That doesn't mean the sanctions aren't doing anything and the Russian economy is in a great state right now. Stop LARPing and come live here if you think it's so impervious to western influence. 1-2 years lmfaoooooooooooooo. They're probably off by an order of magnitude. Try 10-20.Last edited by TomWanks; 03-19-2022 at 06:37 PM.

Was going to ask why you're still there with the current chitshow - are you planning to leave when/if your company shuts the Russian office or do you have personal ties in St Petersburg?
Thanks for the ground report BTW. Was talking to an economist guy at work, asked him how bad he thought it would get. He made an analogy to wartime Britain, yeah they got through it without coming close to governmental collapse but no-one likes being put on rations."A stupid man's report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand."

The US didn't just have assets frozen which equal 80% of it's annual GDP, or lose access to the Western banking system. Whatever the average schmoe suffers in the US, it's 10x worse in Russia.
EDIT
I'm not predicting a Russian revolt BTW, I think Putin's grip is too strong to make that very likely."A stupid man's report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand."

This may change but from what I hear the cost of basic goods like food and fuel hasn't increased at all. Obviously they'll lose access to all the toys and luxury stuff they get from the west right now but really, do you think that's going to lead to a revolt against the world's most popular leader?
Yeah government projections always seem to expect things to be a lot better than they are, I just wanted to show the other side's take. Putin told his people to sell their property in europe like 6 months ago so obviously he's been preparing.Official misc attaché to the Kremlin

Nah man I'm staying in Russia. Even less foreigners are going to be here now. I want to really experience North Korea XL. Will make for a good story and lulzy misc content until I am gulaged and hung. Whatevs.
Revolt? No. Massive economic depression that is going to render Russia the world's largest pariah state on the planet? Yes.
JFL if you think this is going to be over in two years. "Toys" JFL. The entire stock market has been closed for a month brah. Banks are limiting cash withdrawals. They are doing everything they can to prevent hyperinflation and they still might get there.

Agree with this 100%. I was sure he was going to make a move during the Xiden presidency, but I was surprised by the west's reaction tbh. I was also surprised by the inability of the RAF to capitulate Kiev in the first two weeks of the fight. They are going to be made to look like they are just wantonly killing civilians anyway, so I don't see what the point of not doing it is tbh (not advocating for war crimes, just saying, if they are going to call them war criminals anyway...).

So what did we accomplish for us? Russia was never a real competitor to the US, but China is, and now their factories are going to be fueled by all the base materials Russia can produce. The plan was supposed to be that Putin would be replaced by a western puppet like Zelensky, without that it seems like we're just fuking ourselves over. I mean if you really hate the Russian people so much it warms your heart to hear about them suffering then kudos, but meanwhile we've still got out of control inflation and a supply chain that is a disaster.

Christ, you're retarded lmao.
Joe didn't rally anyone against Russia. No one in the EU wants to join in on sanctions against Russia because they rely on their natural gas and oil supply. You think Germany is going to let its people freeze to death in the winter just to virtue signal?
Moron lmaoWorst jew in the world.
