I did this past week to get some idea on stuff to do repairs. Lucky me it is small stuff and I only need a few boards.

But wow...

Whatever price you think it was or should be take that and pretty much double it.

4 x 8 sheet of bead board nearly $40
2 x 4 [quarter sheet?] of 1/4" ply was $30ish IIRC
8' 2 x 6 kiln-dried over $13

Doesn't seem supportive of home prices going lower.

I guess we will find out. Chatted with another oldcel in kitchen cabinets. Asked me something about working there and told him that I did, but like 20 years ago. Some things don't change- he said that store management is tough on employees and they lose a lot of good workers.

I haven't been keeping up with price but I thought they went down a lot since the summer?

Couldn't prove it by me. Glad that I don't need much though. I would at least like to fix the trim around the garage.

Sure have. I'm a decent carpenter and used to love working random projects at the house, but it's hard to do when a 2x4x6 is like $9. You're talking $1k minimum for a fukin swing set with a slide.

I wouldn't know if I am paying top dollar for good or bad labor is the problem. And contractors are in such demand even bad ones are charging alot because they can get away with it.

On my last big project my employees were my step-brother and whichever of his friends showed up. Think 18 to 20-ish. I could be at the house working several hours before they came around. And you had to stay on them giving them tasks and checking back or they would congregate out in the yard smoking or just talking. So frustrating...showed up late, long lunches, left early, some were better than others.

I get your point, but my life path never went that way and I gained experience in other fields that were more lucrative. Minor electrical, plumbing, dry wall, etc I've learned on my own is no biggie for me. Complete remodels is out of my league.

This is a good attempt at deflecting your lack of manhood. FWIW I bet your career is no more lucrative than mine. I'm currently a senior cloud systems engineer but I can also build my own deck, replace a homes cast iron plumbing with PVC or repair my roof. Nice cope.
