What happens if you do absolutely no cardio but eat lean for the most part?

I want to gain muscle and get a trim waist. I'll be honest I hate cardio. Age:25 145lb

It depends what you really mean by lean.
If you don't mean total calories, then it could mean anything

You don't need cardio to get/stay lean if you just control what you eat.

But at 145 lbs I'm gonna guess you need a consistent calorie surplus. Go for muscle now, worry about the waist later.

    ^^ Agreed

Even if you're overfat at 140 pounds, that's only possible across the whole normal spectrum of height if you have virtually no muscle, in which case acquiring some basic strength should be the first order of business.

You need to put on some muscle. I was 136 pounds when I was 17. 5 years of lifting and I was up to 165. 5 years after that I had 18 inch arms if I remember correctly. It might have been 17 or 16. That was 25 years ago.

However I actually don't think a 4'11" male who weighs 140 can be concerningly fat unless they have virtually no muscle whatsoever.

I don't want to be condescending or discouraging, but was only speaking from an impression; and sometimes I'm plain wrong.

Just saying, it seems his(?) priorities are not ideal in trying to lose weight in that circumstance rather than aiming to build up a decent base of strength first.

Not seriously criticizing you... my points above were just that the OP is really vague so none of us can give much useful feedback.

You need cardio. End of story. If anything just for the health benefits that come along with it.

I generally don’t do HIIT because I feel like it is pointless since I’m already doing anaerobic work with resistance training, so I use work for cardio.

But for those without a physical job and need to move, I prefer LISS. 30 mins to an hr of jogging, swimming, rowing etc 2-3 times a week.

Eating lean while doing zero cardio = you might look okay, but you will suck at anything athletic.

This, he has another thread with the gender reveal (it's a boy!). Cannot rule out that he is 4'11'' though!

And OP serious suggestion: If you hate cardio and still want the benefits of regular physical activity, why not just get a step counter and aim to increase your daily step count? Walking more is associated with greater life expectancy, so you don't have to engage in things you find painful to get those benefits. For people who enjoy pain I tend to recommend a dominatrix instead of cardio.

OP, you can lose body fat using a calorie deficit created either by reducing intake or increasing activity. There is no difference provided that you are doing a basic level of weight training to retain muscle and eating enough protein.

But as people are saying, long experience of seeing skinny guys trying to diet on this forum suggests that if you are indeed an average height male, you shouldn't be looking to lose weight from 145lbs... Muscle gain is the priority for now.
