we were the last gen to know a world before and after technology
my theory on why everything sucks today is because companies are so damn aggressive and have infiltrated every life through our phones.
social media churns out the same vapid personalities, fashion, pop culture, speech, it's a hive mentality.
in the 90s everyone just simply had to develop in their own way so there was more creativty of thought, opinions, and other peoeple's problem weren't really yours.
things such as massacres, shootings, murders were shocking and people empathized. nowadays, shootings/ralleys/protests are politicized to rile up human emotions in order to sell/profit from the ad revenue

The lack of wildlife and things like dragon flys and birds is probably because of overdevelopment and a lot more people.
For example, in my neighborhood and town in the 90s there were lots of forests, empty land and a lot less people. We would ride our bikes down the middle of the road in the middle of the day and hardly see any cars.
Now that same road is an endless stream of bumper to bumper traffic. Any empty plot of land and forest was bulldozed and paved over to build new neighborhoods, parking lots and strip malls.

There was definitely a lot more imagination, independent thought and creativity back then.
Without technology, constant bombarding of media/information, and "Googling everything" people had to think for themselves a lot more. It left a lot more things to the imagination. Its a lot easier to control behavior now because of social media and smartphones, along with further consolidation of the control of information into a few giant corporations.

I would agree that the 90’s were superior to the chithole that is now. I would say though that video rental stores were a pain in the ass. Never had new releases in stock, had to physically return that chit in 2 days or you’d get fined. You were totally fked if you lost it. Brb $300 fee for a vhs cassette.

Reps on sight for life fellow street hockey brah.
We had a guy from our childhood team pass away recently... it was weird all of us standing around at the funeral (we are all good buddies outside of hockey to) just like we would back in the day as kids/teens... but now we are old and burying a homie.

Feels like most of the music today, especially mainstream music, all sounds the same. Everything "popular" is all auto-tuned R&B pop/rap blended garbage with empty, vapid lyrics about money, cars and sex.
There was a lot more variety and diversity, and a lot more creativity in the 90s and early 2000s.

the record executives have figured out the formula for poppy catchy gimmicky artists and songs. like factories they pump them out and once the statistics are there (revenue, views, plays) profit is made and they rinse and repeat.
the human mind is addicted to new things. new quickly becomes "meh" or normalized after the shine wears off and companies just puts another idiot on the pedestal to bank off of

I remember watching a video that documented this. Music stars are manufactured now rather than organically created. They'll take a young person that fits the look they want (they don't have to be that musically talented) then they use auto-tune to make up for their pitch, then provide them with the cookie-cutter formula for "catchy" gimmicky songs which all sound the same, and then pump them out one after another.

What are we supposed to do? I literally just stare at screens all day if i'm not working. There's nothing else to really do. No community. No culture. Woke culture has taken over everything and made it weird. Not sure what there is to do anymore.

Breweries, gastropubs, concerts, museums, art festivals, sporting events.............all these things still exist. My wife and i went to an international guitar show this week, and a piano performance last month. We take road trips and check out cool sites.

Yeah i used to be social. But I don't talk much anymore because of how sensitive everyone is plus there isn't anh culture anymore. Outside of safe small talk like football scores, netflix and food there isn't much else to talk about. And tbh any time I try to be my masculine assertive self I get people getting mad or passive aggressive at me. It's just very boring now because all I hear now are the same looping safe convos.

Oldcel checking in.
Can confirm.
It's actually like 86-95 that were the GOAT years.
Everything started to go to chit in about 96. By 98, the chitiness was in full effect.
Actually went to high school during this time and cannot confirm what you see in those videos. You're seeing the final day of school. Should have taken of a video of a school day in February.
All that said, life in 98-2002 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> life after 2002. srs.Misc Entrepreneur Crew
