I have a buddy who is a licensed ASCE Master Mechanic, he doesn't do cars anymore, except for mine. His fixes firetrucks on location, way easier on his back and wrists. At any rate I sent him a meme that went something like this:

"If you pay me $150 for 15 minutes, you're not paying for that 15 minutes, you're paying for the 15 I spent learning how to do that in 15 minutes."

Anyway I think that's how it went.

I had to give a drug screen to a group of guys that were doing pipeline work. The foreman told me a story.

They were digging and hit a fiber optic cable near a military base. Within 5 minutes there were 2 Blackhawks that landed by them and they were surrounded in a 200 yard perimeter of armed troops that made a circle around them. The guns were not pointed at the dig site. They were all facing the other way. They were facing opposite the point of intrusion to protect it. Some general came over to the foreman. Flags were off.

I read that story and think... some of the officers were really bored that day and decided it was a good opportunity to stir up the men.

Even if you have plans of where utilities are, they are not always exactly where you expect. I've had issues where utilities weren't exactly as marked and happened to be in the exact perfect-wrong place, real bad luck.

If people do a lot of digging they need the experience to be able to deal with the odd surprise and complication. I even once saw a WW2 bomb uncovered by a digger - that was a "fun" day (it turned out to be non viable, but that's not always the case even all these years later)

But back to the original post and realclout's take on this. He is clearly boasting of his ability to rod turds, nobody should try to take that away from him

I can do most things except hang patterned wallpaper and line up the pattern (I just become very very angry, I can't do it) or plaster large areas (a patch a couple of square yards). Also I can, and have in the past repaired home gas furnace (or "boilers" in English) but this is a job I leave to a qualified experienced specialist. I'm sure realclout is a real man and not scared of carbon monoxide or how it can affect a family. Although I can do most home and electrical, mechanical, plumbing and maintenance jobs - about 1/3rd the time I pay for someone else to do it as they can often do it far quicker and with a lot less bad language than me.

My worst fatality investigation was a guy that got run over, repeatedly, with a bobcat. Literally a puddle by the time the machine was able to be turned off…lot of fluids in people, 70% is a LOT.

I had been seeing this airplane flying around in circles all over town one morning. Later that day I was collecting rent from a guy and he said "Paul, I have to tell you a story". Last night I was having dinner at a restaurant down town and I saw the crew from Deep South Crane come out of the pool hall. I thought to myself "They must not be staying with you, because you have a warning sign on every refridgerator to stay out of the pool hall because of people picking fights with contractors". One of the crane guys said he was going back in and would walk back to where they were staying. Well today one of the crane crew guys didn't show up. He wasn't in jail, he wasn't in the hospital, he wasn't in his motel room. They found his dead body under a highway bridge. The airplane was from the wildlife and parks department and they were doing an aerial search. The next day his girlfriend in Houston was found dead from a gunshot.

I read something similar but different the other day.

We get a few floaters in our local waterways. Some of our crews are on boats and find them and have to babysit until state troopers can come retrieve them.
